Yes it was a Geeksquad certified unit.

I purchased a 2015 15" Base MacBook Pro, for $1600 2 weeks after release.

It was completely reset to 1st run condition. And came with everything in the box.

I purchased an early 2016 MacBook open box and it was in brand new condition with the remainder of the manufacturer warranty. Very pleased with the purchase, especially given the discount.
 
FYI
Open box units are discounted off the current new price. New price drops, even temporarily, so does the open box price. And both go back up together.

At Micro Center I've occasionally witnessed the open box price being higher than the new price due to temporary price drops. It's easily corrected by pointing it out to the staff whole immediately adjusts the open box price down by an appropriate amount.
