So Best Buy decides to raise the price of the 27in Imac by $500. Apple has it listed for $1699 and Best Buy has it listed for $2199. I sent my wife in to buy one and they would not change the price.

They probably had a different configuration than the base model. No way would they have a $500 markup.

Sounds like they were trying to sell your wife the Quad Core i7. It starts out priced at $2199.

The Best Buy website has it listed at $2199 and its not the quad. Maybe someone made a mistake. They surely will not sell many C2D's at that price.

Well I just bought my base 27" iMac on the 6th on November at Best Buy and I paid $1699. I also got a 500 GB external hard drive for free with a Reward Zone coupon they sent me.

    Imac Pricing

It is not a mistake. It is the base model. I talked with some people and Best Buy is Overpriced. Look at the specs online.

    Not a Mistake

I talked with some employees for Apple that work inside Best Buy and they said that this is Best Buys price. It is not a mistake and they would not change the price.

Well a couple days ago both online and at my local store it was $1,699 and since Apple has an MSRP I'm pretty sure they can not sell it for this much of a mark up so it's more then likely a mistake that the standard customer service reps you spoke to aren't aware of since I'm sure no one is educated in Apple products there.

    What my managers say

Hey everybody I just figured I'd hop in here and let you all know I actually work for best buy and was appaled by the price jump and while I won't randomly mention the price differneces to customers, I will certainly provide the information on how to obtain the dual core mac at a cheaper price online if a customer askes, but anyway, I thought you all would like to know I talke to the GM of my store and he has told me flat out that the price jump is NOT a mistake, although he blamed it on apple saying something like " apple sets all the prices of the macs we have nothing to do with it, if it raised here it's goingbto raise on apple later today." of course this is a line of ********, it never raised and will not raise on apples website. Alot of my computer team and myself speculate though, that it's goingbto be a temperary jump in price because you see ALOT of our stores all around the US have a ton of those old 24" iMacs and we've already dropped the price by hundreds of dollars ( $1999 24" that has the 2.93 ghz processor is down to 1500 ) we think that the company will reset the prices after we finally move those out if the stores, BUT this is only the speculation of a couple of guys in one best buy, kinda makes sense though if you ask me, still total douchbagarry though

I have been to three stores on Oregon and the price is $1699.00 and they also honor the educator's discount which marks it down to $1599.00

This is exactly why best buy has very low customer satisfaction...
