I am currently an employee at a Minnesota Best Buy and asked the Best Buy Mobile supervisor about this. His reply was "It's coming in August".

Considering I went to an AT&T store today and was given a photo copied price list and they can give no detail other than they will have the iPhone at 8 AM on July 11th I doubt it.
Ok, all that proves is AT&T is unorganized and doesn't know what is going on. Additionally, I never said it would be offered on launch day - I wouldn't expect it to be. Its entirely feasible that it will be offered at a later date at BB and Radio Shack. Nothing is stopping that -- as I have stated before, they both have the infrastructure already in place to create and activate post-paid AT&T Wireless accounts.
Why not 7-11. They sell phones and calling cards. I plan on ordering my iPhone at McDonald's on July 11th. I've heard the clown wished it to happen and they're giving an iPhone with every Happy Meal.
Because 7-11 sells phone cards and pre-paid phones. These (think Boost Mobile, TracFone) do not require a contract, activation, or an account to be setup - you bring the phone home, turn it on, and punch in your pre-paid code for minutes. Best Buy and Radio Shack both have access to AT&T's intranet - the same one used by AT&T and its franchisees - to setup, create, and activate post-paid AT&T Wireless accounts
ALWAYS REMEMBER... YOU READ IT ON THE INTERNET! IT MUST BE TRUE.
How old are you? 12? All I said was that its a possibility and provided evidence as to why it could be possible. Your arguments are just foolish, to say the least.

The Mobile Phone area of my local BestBuy just underwent a major redesign... much easier to navigate, everything table height (like Apple Stores and the Apple section of BestBuy) instead of racks that block your view. Perhaps they're getting ready for the iPhone? Considering rival CircuitCity has an exclusive Verizon kiosk/arrangement, it might be a wise move for AT&T to establish such an arrangement w/ BestBuy. Leave RadioShack to Sprint.

Anyone else's BestBuy Mobile Phone dept undergone a similar renovation?

I don't believe this
But if for some reason it WAS true, this definitely is not good new.
The buyer experience will go completely down the drain.
Who wants to buy an iPhone from a pimpled faced kid, who has no clue about electronics.... ?

what??? hahaha.
I can care less what they person selling me the phone looks like as long as I get my item.

work at BB

I work in inventory at Best Buy, so I pretty much see everything that comes in for us to sell... Haven't seen any iPhones yet, and we usually get stuff a week in advance, but it could come in Tuesday since our truck on Saturday was cancelled due to the holiday. Thursday is also a possibility, but they don't usually wait that long to send us stuff. Pretty doubtful that we'll carry them though, at least not on the initial release date. I could definitely see us offering them in the future though, seeing as we have a dedicated Apple section AND a revamped Best Buy Mobile, which is considered a store within a store, rather than a section of the store. Kind of annoying really, but pretty well kept. Conclusively, I'd say that we may carry them, but certainly not on July 11th.

When the launch hype starts to fade [maybe in August or September], I can see Apple putting the iPhone in some additional retail channels. Best Buy and Radio Shack, along with Wal-Mart, are viable options. Such an announcement would be a good way to keep the hype machine going a bit longer and would also make it easier for many folks to find and purchase an iPhone.
Don't know if it is going to happen or not, but it is a 'logical' rumor.

Spoke to Diane at the Radio Shack near my house this morning and she confirmed taht only AT&T's corporate stores (her language) would be selling the iPhone 3G. Take it for what it's worth.

I am also a Radio Shack employee who has spoken to several ATT reps immediately following the keynote presentation and it was their understanding (as also mentioned by boy genius report) that an agreement had been made to allow Apple iphone sales in certain Radio Shack locations following the initial rollout period (presumably not until at least the start of 3rd Q)

No dates have yet been mentioned or confirmed so of course it is still all only a rumor... hence the name of the site ;)

edit: meant to say *4th Q

Sorry, had to parse my reply because my iPhone wouldn't scroll my reply because this site doesn't allow me.

I think with a screen name like WindowsGuy, I'm not 12. That would be reserved for a mac boy.

Let's face it if you own the 1st Gen iPhone there is NO reason to upgrade unless you're in the 2% of the US that has 3G. If I had 3G I'd buy the update today.

I'll wait for AT&T to get their **** together before I pay $35 more per month for the new phone.

Keep in mind the only app on the horizon for voice GPS maps is charging $99 per year. Not paying it, never will.

I love my iPhone but I have all the apps with no additional cost that I can't get with AT&T's lack of coverage. I wish Verizon would have got the contract. At least they have 3G for most of the US.

FLASH, COPY & PASTE, SPELL CHECK, BETTER CAMERA, FREE GPS MAPS (why put GPS on the phone).

I don't want to wait until I'm 50 to get the next STEVE JOBS (Mr. Perfectionist) update.

I have a Motorola V551 that is 4 years old that does voice dialing. The BlackBerry has voice recognition.

WHEN WILL YOU DUMB ASS MAC HEADS REALIZE THAT YES IT'S A GREAT PHONE BUT THIS WAS A POOR EXCUSE FOR AN UPGRADE THAT ONLY AT&T AND APPLE WILL PROFIT FROM.

YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY EVERY FUNCTION ABOVE. KEEPING THE 1ST GEN PHONE AND AM ALWAYS KEEPING MY EYE ON THE COMPETITION BECAUSE I'LL BUY A BETTER PHONE THE DAY IT COMES OUT. THE 3G PHONE WAS NOT A BETTER PHONE FOR 1ST GEN OWNERS.

It is not necessary to upgrade to the 3G phone if you don't want to. I know a lot of Apple fans will buy anything that Steve tells them to buy, but that is up to them to decide. I bought the new iPhone since I was out of my contract and with the subsidies, it was much more affordable. Plus, the new app store was cool.

When the next iPhone comes out, if it is better then I will upgrade. If not, then I will skip it.

Well, it is going to happen. Best Buy has developed very close ties with Apple in the last year or two. A friend of mine was part of a meeting at Best Buy Corp that said it would start selling the iPhone in several months.

Pffft... I love how most of you dismiss certain possibilities, and claim to know without a doubt what the industry is thinking behind closed doors. Reminds me of a little piece of history when people thought the earth was flat. Anything different than their point of view or belief was complete and utterly wrong.

This site has taught me one thing.

99% BS and opinion and 1% fact when it's actually based upon a press release.

I was part of a meeting at Microsoft and they feel that Apple has the best OS and have given up. They are going to start porting their software to Leorpard
One thing I've learned...

When Sheep follow blindly, Steve will have you believing a pile of manure is filet mignot.

Baaaaah.
