Kallum.
Thanks for mentioning that this sale would happen sometime this month. because I saw your earlier post, I was keeping track of the Mini 4 and got one yesterday.

Is it worth getting the 9.7 iPad Pro at these prices? I'm tempted, but since Apple has effectively discontinued it so soon (like what they did with the iPad 3,) it doesn't seem like a smart purchase. I'll only use it for media consumption, so I don't really need the Pro features. But having better specs than the 2017 iPad would probably mean it will keep up with future iOS updates.

http://newatlas.com/new-ipad-2017-vs-ipad-pro-9-7/48600/ is a good summary... but IMO I'm not seeing a lot of compelling reasons to get the 9.7" Pro if you don't use the Pencil or Smart Keyboard.

Compared to the 2017 9.7" the 9.7" pro is a better tablet

Better screen
Better speakers
Better processor
Option for keyboard
Option for pencil

Thankfully I was able to sell my 9.7 Pro on Craigslist today. Got $390, the same price I originally paid for it on Swappa a little over a month and a half ago.

Was getting a little dicey on CL with almost no bites for 3 weeks. Then this sale came and I thought it will drive down the used 9.7 Pro prices for sure.
