Why would people even buy an iPhone from Best Buy? So they can sell you crap load of crap no one wants? Like Geek-Support?

Just go to Apple Store. Don't have one? Order on apple's website. So easy!

With $235 in rewardzone coupons ready for the iPhone 5 purchase, me. Along with my gift card for a total of $285.

i work at best buy, and i said from the beginning that they need to stop calling them pre orders. They are just reservations. We have no idea how many are coming in. we just take reservations for when they do come in.

Although it seems that the message was clearly communicated to most customers before purchase.

I preorderd mine from Sprint and it arrived release day about 11am. Beats waiting in line (which I would never do). I got to say, Sprint is an amazing service. Unlimited 4g is nice, great customer service.

I got a similar email from best buy for my two pre-orders.

I was the second in line at the South OKC store on I-240 and they did not receive anything but 10 16GB Black AT&T models. I ordered a 32GB Black and a 32GB White for AT&T. I don't mind waiting as I am saving $100 bucks total by going through them and signing up for their phone freedom promotion earlier this year.

Well at least it isn't the old Crossroads location, you probably would have been mugged!

I do find it funny that Best Buy claims nobody will be able to walk in anywhere and purchase one before they are able to fill preorders. I went to the Apple Store in Penn Square about 3pm and walked out with both the 5's I wanted without a preorder and only a 3 minute wait in line.

Ya, come back and see us when you actually have that bad boy in your hands. :D

I picked it up mine last night after work from the Best Buy store. My only complaint was that I had to wait an hour for them to process the people in front of me. But once it was my turn, it took less than 15 minutes to activate and purchase.

Best Buy is the worst company ever. Serves them right for selling $100 HDMI cables to clueless customers for so many years.

I can't wait to see Best Buy rot into the ground.

Paid a $100 deposit for 2 phones and was repeatedly assured that since I was 4th in line I would be able to get a phone release day. Called last night to tell me that I wouldn't be able to get a phone for 2-3 weeks. Told them I wasn't happy and wanted a refund and they refused. I wasn't told that there were no refunds. Today I will be contacting my bank to refute the charge. Best Buy lost a customer yesterday. One that spends several grand a year on electronics and computers. And one that tends to post how they feel about experiences, good or bad, on review sites and facebook and twitter. Way to go, Best Buy!
...

Which Best Buy in Dallas did you goto? I went to the Lewisville one after 6 PM the previous Friday to pre-order and never once they assured me that I would get it on launch day. They said that I will get an e-mail if it is available and to call on launch day if I did not get an e-mail. I got an e-mail and a phone call Thursday and I picked up my phone after work yesterday. AT&T 32 GB black.

Good, I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm glad I decided to just go to my AT&T store and not try Walmart. I heard quite a few horror stories the last couple of days from people who went to Walmart, Radio Shack, Best Buy etc...

Am I the only one who pre ordered from Best Buy and didn't get this 28 day email? The only email I received was the original preorder confirmation email.

Best Buy FAIL. Hurry up and go out of business so I can clean up at your fire sale just like I did with Circuit City ;)

No joke. They shouldn't have done preorders if they didn't know stock counts.

Does Apple promise retailers a certain quantity of iPhones? If so, this would be a big letdown by Apple's supply side. If not, why do such retailers even take preorders?

Other way around. The companies basically buy the phones off the makers. That's how Samsung brags about 10 million sold. It's all channel sales.

How it is divided up to the stores is up to the companies. One would think they would have some kind of computer system that knows the grand totals and divides that up to the stores based on demand. But it seems not

Man, there's a lot of hate going on in this thread on Best Buy.

They only took preorders for FOUR DAYS before cutting them off and switching it to a waiting list, which they only left open for a single day before switching it off as well until after the launch. Had the demand level been around the same that it had been for the 4S, it probably wouldn't have been such a big deal.

From what I understood, Best Buy got majorly shafted on iPhone 5 shipments. Initially they were expecting one box (10 units) of each model/color for each carrier, so about 60 total phones per store at launch, which isn't bad for a 3rd party dealer.

Best Buy got less than half of what was originally communicated to them by Apple, and most stores only got 3 or 4 boxes of phones on launch day. AT&T 16GB black models were most prevalent and also the most preordered model. I had been put on the waiting list for a 32GB Black for AT&T at the store I picked mine up from, but still got in on launch day because they only had 8 preorders for that model, but received 10 units.

I don't see why people are so quick to hate on Best Buy, it's not as if they control their supply. If you can get the phone somewhere else, you could've just easily canceled your preorder and gotten your cash back. I had registered for their Phone Freedom program earlier in the year so I got my 32GB for $250.

Agreed. $50 is worth it to me and I knew going in I probably wouldn't get it on launch day. I ordered afternoon last Friday, was high up on the list (17 or 18 I think) , but was still told clearly that it was not a guarantee. Having worked in retail and service, I honestly assume that the majority of people upset on here didn't listen when they were told this.

And Apple is the one behind distribution, and look what it did! How many people are bagging on the 3rd parties and won't go there any more? That is genius marketing for them, driving competition out if the running, and keeping more of the profits internal. Clearly not BB fault.

And I think having something first really stopped being fun in like 4th grade. It's not that big of a deal to me, so that and the $50 card + reward points is why I went to BB.

No problem with Best Buy

The hate for Best Buy here is over the top. I put in a reservation at lunchtime on the first day of preorders. BB called (and emailed me) Thursday to set up a time I could pick my phone up on Friday. They even had a makeshift waiting area with chairs set up by the phone dept for people once they checked in. I thought they did a great job.

I wont ever forget when I was installing Dish Network and the Geek Squad was also there installing a TV and surround...this guy says, "You would benefit from our HDMI ($60) because it has a cooling sleeve around it". ...and of course the 75 year old couple with the 19 year old daughter with 3 kids fell for it.

When we were both out in the driveway at our vans, I said...really, you told them they needed a cooling sleeve around their HDMI cable? He said yep...I gotta sell HDMI's or my job is gone and people will believe anything.

I got an email this morning that my gf white 16 gig is ready of pick up but not my black 16 gig for sprint.

First part I absolutely believe, second part is absolute BS. There isn't a Best Buy employee (or ANY employee of a retailer) who, while on the clock, in uniform, would admit to scamming a customer so blatantly and directly.

General consensus seems to be if you got your phone on day one, Best Buy rules. If you didn't get your phone on day one, even though there was NO GUARANTEE AS TO AVAILABILITY, ONLY that you would be FIRST to get the product once the store got the product, as in you have priority over walk ins, you hate Best Buy. Kinda convenient.

The district Best Buy Mobile manager in Atlanta combed through all the pre-orders and all the store's inventory the night before launch and did store-to-store transfers to accommodate as many pre-orders as possible. It also avoided the problem of a store getting 20 16GB ATT/Black with only 2 pre-orders and another getting 20 of another variety. I bought my phone at the Midtown location and it apparently originally came from a location over 20 miles away. He went above and beyond to ensure as many people as possible were happy and is one of the reasons Best Buy is still around.

Hopefully you aren't the Best Buy CEO because I will tell you and testify that it is how it is.

I myself couldn't believe it...which is why I confronted him about it. From that day on, I ALWAYS told people when I did an install...a HDMI is a HDMI. When you go to buy a new TV, this HDMI I am giving you will work just as well as the fancy $60 one at the big box store.

i preordered 2 phones @ noon on the 14th. Only 1 pick up was available on the 21st. BBY sent me an email today telling me my preorder was ready for pickup. I picked up my phone yesterday from the Apple store after i reserved it @ 1 am tuesday. Sorry BBY, you're too late:p

Preordered mine at Walmart, 4th on list for hubby and I. Today is the 26th still have not received shipments. Super pissed. What's the point of preordering if u don't get them in the day of launch. We are going on vacation on Friday and want to have the phone for pics.
