My store said open box apple is only 5% off, not the usual 10%, but I've seen people post that they got 1099 -100 open box -100 student for 899. I'm trying to find a receipt scan to take in to best buy tomorrow.

Over at SlickDeals, I've seen people post they got an open box current gen marked for $899, not including education discount.

$999 for a brand new current gen is not too shabby either. I am enjoying my new Air. Its a big upgrade to my 2009 Air and a lot cheaper too. Good timing since my 2009 Air died 2 weeks ago. Apple wanted $300 to send it out to repair center, the geniuses couldnt figure it out. Good buy.

And to the person that ask if any edu email works. Yes it does. Used my med school email.

I really would have liked to save the $$ on one of these but man I really woould be kicking myself for not having 8GB of ram.

Got my best buy to pricematch another best buy's open box for $939, and she said it would work with the $100 student coupon.

If I go in tonight and it works like it is supposed to, there's no way I'll regret skipping 8gb ram for $400 more from Apple.

Honestly that's what I was thinking as well, but the 4 gb seems fine because that SSD is really fast. I am not doing anything processor heavy though,

Nice. What was the original price of the open box?

1045 or so, since they were taking 5% off the 1099 price. I don't know where the other best buy got the price of 939 but hey, I'll take it in a heartbeat with $100 off pricematched. If they give me trouble, I'll drive farther to the one with the 939 original price and see what they can do for me.

based on this thread just picked up a open box 13 base for 940 after the student discount.

thanks guys - great tip on a smoking deal

Just paid for my open box, $839 with student discount.

I can't pick it up until tomorrow though. I'll post pics of receipt when I pick it up. I have the receipt because I wanted to pay today to make sure I got the price while the sale was still going on, but it won't be ready until tomorrow and I don't want to do anything to jinx myself on such a hot deal :p

That sounds like a really great deal. I hope my best buy has them for $939. Going in tomorrow...

they most likely don't.

I'll tell my story tomorrow, again I don't want to jinx it before I have the computer in my hand. It's fully honest, it's just such a great deal I can't even believe it :p

I called a few different best buys until 1 said they had it at 939. I thought I heard him wrong but he was positive. I doublechecked and assured with him that it was the new 2012 one. The thing is, that store is about 45 minutes away, so I called the closer store to see if they would pricematch. They said they would, contacted the other store, and saved the pricematch price. Then they said it won't be ready until tomorrow, when I thought the sale was going to be over but maybe not?, so I got over it and drove 45 minutes to the far store to buy it. Turns out it was a 2011 one. I was really stressed and mad and called the store that was gonna give it to me tomorrow and explained, and they said they would honor it still. They let me pay for it last night and pick it up today, I'm posting this on it right now. It's awesome, one miniscule scratch on the bottom that doesn't bug me one bit. The only issue I have is that the trackpad is a little clicky sounding. I don't remember my old macbook air being like this (2011 one). Is this a common thing, or something to take it in to the apple store for?

Thanks to this thread i saved an extra $100 on top of the student discount of $100.$200 in all, payed like $1080 with tax.

Mine was 940 after the discount. I don't think it would be at all possible to obtain a 2012 version for any less.

All in all it's the best deal I was ale to find anywhere, but I wonder if it would have been better to just get the NIB for only $50 more.

They didn't have any open box Airs at my store, unfortunately. So I just picked up the 2012 Air. I'm absolutely loving it. Still a great deal for $1080 with tax.

It is, I got it for 839 :p

My mom just picked up a NIB one for $999 because she likes mine so much.

Gotta love no sales tax in Oregon!

The $100 off ended today... it dropped down to $60 off instead. So with the combined $100 student rebate my total was $1114 with tax. Not bad for a computer that would have cost me over $1300. This is the first brand new Mac I've purchased in 5 years, but this deal was just too good to pass up. I was about to buy a refurbished previous gen Air for $1000. The extra $114 spent is worth every penny. I'm loving it so far... it's lightning quick! lighting

Yeah, this is a ridiculously fast computer. I've been playing TF2 and WoW with 10 tabs on chrome, itunes, adium, skype, and more open. No regrets on the 4gb ram.
