I guess I should have been a bit more skeptical but honestly, when a corporate retail store as big as Best Buy offers a service that costs $8, why should I have anything to fear? Seems like a simple enough procedure, and had I known how easy it was I would have gone for it myself. I just thought it'd be easy to play the ignorant consumer for once and have it done for me.

if they screw your phone up they have to replace it, thats how it is at my bestbuy, i let them do my 3gs and the guy got water in the headphone jack and set off the sensor, they had to replace my 7month old 3gs with a brand new out of the box. (this was 3 weeks before the iphone 4 came out btw)

Just an update:

Corporate Customer Care said that I have to go back to the store first and speak with a manager before I can file a claim.

I called the store and spoke to the geek squad manager. He 100% assured me that the IS application solution can't trip the liquid sensors or damage electronics, and it frequently happens that it gets in the speaker port. He said it always dries and is not soluble. No comment on the horrible service and no compensation seems to be forthcoming

I really don't think anyone's going to help me out here.

I feel like that's a load of ****, but after getting the run around, I'm about to just let the whole thing go. Neither of my external liquid sensors are tripped, so any Apple rep would probably just replace it for me under Applecare if any issue did arise.

Lesson learned I guess...

Don't ever let bestbuy touch any of your electronics!

I have been through some bad incidents with best buy in the past that had to do with customer service. When you know you are right and they are at fault you must demand for a refund, exchange etc... I had a friend who got a zagg installed from them and they were spraying the solution directly on the device. The zagg instructions says to only spray on the shield. Sure enough his speaker had water dripping out of it and he couldn't hear from the speaker well during phone calls. Lesson learned: don't trust best buy with you electronics. Buy whatever you want to get from the store, but don't ever let them touch it.

Btw installing a skin is really easy on the new iPhone because both sides are flat.

That is terrible. Lesson learned just DIY with something as easy as installing a shield. Its not hard at all.

Of course this is all too late hope you get the issue resolved.

You're joking right?

Please don't be a push over.

And what exactly should he do? Demand a new phone when he can't even demonstrate that there's anything wrong with his phone? I've seen people take completely submerged phones, stick them in a bowl of dry rice and leave it there for a couple of days and you couldn't even tell the phone had ever been wet.

I've seen others get a rain drop on their phone and have it be focked up.

Saying he shouldn't be a "pushover" and demand a new phone when there's evidently nothing permanently wrong with his is ludicrous. At most BB should offer him some small gift card for wasting his time installing the skin when they evidently don't know what the hell they are doing.

I just can't believe you let those idiots at Bestbuy handle your phone...

Can you really trust of those "Expert technicians" or those "Geek Squad" guys?

I don't know what else to do really. I refuse to go back to the store and be told the same thing by multiple geek squad employees, and their manager. I guess I could call back corporate and let them know what happened, and see if I can file a claim.

I mean, the solution is 'mostly water based' according to the Zagg site. It would have to trigger the liquid sensor.

However, the phone is still working ok and the speaker is fine for now. I guess I'll just call customer care back and see what they say I should do.

come on guys you can do it yourself. just takes patience.

i know my local Worst Buy will not install these anymore on i4s. I wonder why...the guy just told me that they were told not to install screen shields for the i4. too many complaints? liability? i wonder...

but seriously file a formal WRITTEN complaint to corporate and then maybe copy the complaint to other consumer agencies...

I didn't catch this anywhere but maybe you did try this:

Go to an Apple store and ask them to check your phone and make sure they will still uphold the warranty. They can check and make sure none of the strips were wet to the point where the can deny you an exchange.

And if you bought a service plan with BB, do whatever you can to return it. Waste of money at this point, since they've shown they can't provide "service" worth paying for.
