I traded an iPad 3 64GB WiFi over the weekend. It took way too long (over an hour) and the associate had to get help from 3 other managers to make it happen.
I locked-in the $114 value last week knowing the trade-in would be dropping fast. Showed up at the store with the iPad reset and activation lock turned off. Despite showing my email, my offer couldn't be found and the process started over, ending with a $72 trade-in offer. Store manager said the email is just an estimate. I called bs and asked for a different manager since the email literally says the price is good for a week. Then they couldn't find the model number, or enter the serial number correctly, or figure out the color. Finally they somehow gave me someone else's offer and just replaced his info with my info. I walked out with a $114 gift card and a receipt (just in case that got messed up too).
Looking forward to my "new" refurbished iPad Air 2 128GB WiFi being delivered Thursday. I picked a better screen and saving $50 over the one-generation newer processor of the new iPad. It should get at least 3-4 years of iOS updates and still hold decent resale value.
I had a similar trade-in experience yesterday, although you made out better than I did. I was locked in at $72, and was only offered $60 when I got to the store. 3 managers later and I was able to walk out with $72.

I traded in an (original) iPad mini today, too old to qualify for Best Buy's $150 trade-in deal. Too slow under 9.3.5 to be of any use in any case.

FWIW, they refused to price-match Staple's $299 online price from today. :-/

You need to disable the Activation lock. If you do that, it qualifies for their $150 trade in deal.

Ah, that makes sense thinking through it. Though it would also seem to make sense for them to point that out. But I don't think I'd give up a 128GB LTE Air 2 in perfect shape for $150 trade-in.

Those buying the base 16gb iPad mini 2 or base iPad 16gb iPad Air always get the best value for this $150 Best Buy trade in.

I just could never live with 16gb in 2013. Maybe could have gotten away with 32gb mode. But ended up paying $699 (with target $100 gift card Black Friday back in 2013) for iPad Air 64gb wifi. So my resell isn't the best but I wasn't hampered with 16gb either for 3.5 years. Just resold my old iPad Air 64gb the kids used for $200

I just traded in my 3.5 year old iPad Air (32gb) for the new iPad. $202 bucks out the door after tax. Snapped on my old shell and Smart Cover and its like it never left. Except that my tabs don't reload every time I revisit them. And I get split view now. Solid.
