Just to confirm, I called my Best Buy with the same question and they said of course you can use it, it is as good as cash.

the only issue you may run into is for the preorder you can not purchase a gift card with a gift card so you may have to fork over the initial $50 from your own pocket

This is true, you will need $50 in cash for each phone and the balance can be paid via gift card, Best Buy credit card or Gold Bullion!

talk to a manager they may have the power to override it since you did the best buy trade in.
