There is obviously confusion on BB's part where some stores are not honoring the stated policy and making the mistake of doing both.

It's nice in some ways to have the $150 from BB though since it can be used for more than just iTunes. You can still buy $50 or so in ITMS cards and use the rest for whatever you want.

I'm definitely disappointed because the store sales associates indeed told me the other day that the deal is for BOTH the price matched academic price plus their $150 Best Buy gift card to price match the App Store/Ipad deal from Apple.

I contacted Best Buy 800 number, told them what happened. They told to go buy it from Apple directly then.

I was so annoyed at that point that I then sent an e-mail directly to Apple Corporate and asked them how they can stand behind Best Buy as a Certified Reseller if this is what they do.

Did this deal expire?

Tried to get the $150 gift card yesterday with my MBP purchase. Store manager told me the deal just expired this Monday... Someone please confirm

Way cheaper to buy it at the University, you don't have to pay tax at most University stores.

They received an email on Sunday with their new $150 gift card promotion and how to honor it. So, depending on when stores got it is how they are honoring it. Pretty much the email says how they can and can't do education discount. The store I bought mine from showed me the email and said technically I would only be eligible for the $150 gift card but they gave me another $50 off to make the deal and just said they hadn't seen the email yet. ;)

Never heard of that. Must be a state by state thing but can't think of why college students would get a sales tax break.

I went back this evening, and they tried everything for 30 minutes and were unable to give me any sort of discount outside either one or the other.

As for beating the sales tax, he is right. If it is shipped to a college, the taxes are waived. Only problem is, I would not trust the campus mail people with it. It's going to get kicked around, and maybe will eventually find its way to your office... eventually. If you're not in any rush, and don't care about a dented box, then go for it.
