Also, remember that Apple's extended warranty (AppleCare) works internationally on laptops, so if you go back to Italy and need service, you should be OK.

Apple Care can be bought regardless of which store you buy it from. If you know everything that you need to know I would not hesitate to buy from Best Buy. I have bought a MB and MBP from them in the last 6 months. I have also bought a MBP from the Apple Store. They all work the same. If you have questions then hit up the Apple Store.

I got my macbook at best buy and I don't regret it. I bought there service plan which also offers international coverage. It also offers power surge protection which I'm pretty sure apple dosen't offer. And as for Best buy's service plan offering accidental coverage like someone had stated, I don't know about that and I worked at best buy for a year. Also, just to throw it in, like others have mentioned if you know what you want and you have no questions, just go to the closest store. The only reasons I bought from best buy was because I worked there, I got a discount, they offer the surge protection coverage, and there is no apple store here.

I worked at BestBuy last year. After witnessing their shady business practices and carelessness first hand, I don't shop there anymore.

If somebody actually recommends Best Buy I think I'll have to slap them... Apple Store for sure.

if you know what you want, then whats the difference where you get it?

there are many more best buys than apple stores so yes i reccomend bb for those who know what they want

I've just had several really bad experiences with Best Buy. I personally won't buy ANYTHING there anymore, nor could I recommend going there. As one poster above that worked there mentioned, they have some very shady business practices, and careless. My last purchase there, a TV stand, resulted in going through two completely dinged up ones and jumping through 20 hoops to get the first replacement and another 40 to just return the dang thing. Even the copy of Guitar Hero 3 I got there was screwed up. Maybe I'm just doomed to have bad experiences there, but that's my story. Sorry, I got off on a rant, but hey, they deserve it in my mind.

The Metairie store has treated me like crap when I went in there to get my MacBook Pro serviced. I wouldn't give them a cent after how they treated me. They made me feel like an idiot, they at first wouldn't even take my laptop for service, and after they looked into my issue, they said that there was nothing wrong embarrassing me while in the store around their customers.

My fan exploded, they said that it was fine. Drove 6 hours back to college and when I turned it on I heard a bunch of grinding. I shut it off and shook my laptop and parts of the fan fell out. Great service for sure . There was definitely NOTHING wrong. Those were just spare fan blades falling out.

The people wearing nametags and poorly fashioned shirts while making near minimum wage at the apple store are so much smarter than the people wearing nametags and poorly fashioned shirts while making near minimum wage at best buy.

come on now.

I was just at Best Buy and saw three people leaving with Vista laptops.

As usual there was no employee at the Apple section. And the computers had no content so you couldn't play with the iLife apps. People come over, take a peek, look at the price and run away.

I honestly believe Apple should pull out of BestBuy. The Apple "section" at BestBuy is obviously neglected, with little to no hardware to demonstrate. It simply looks "sad", and that alone sends a negative impression to the buyer (little hardware, not much software, very little applications running on a small plethora of hardware). The "sales associate's" and "Geek Squad" are mainly versed in Windows OS environments (as I work in It as part of my business, years ago I checked out BestBuy as one of my "competitors" and pretended to be a Mac user with system troubles. I asked a few "Geek Squad Agents" questions about Mac - and Windows - they were nothing more than intermediate Windows associates). BestBuy seems more interested in selling their Windows based systems, I wonder if there is more incentive.

Apple should follow their own hardware/software strategy by tightly controlling their sales in Apple stores only. For those who do not live within an Apple store, buy online.

but.. I read some posts about problems with Invidia 8600 gt installed in Mac book pro..I hope not!!

Apple Store. On-line or retail. Personally, I'm a fan of the refurbs available from the on-line Apple Store. Also, consider Amazon.com if you're looking to save on the sales tax.
