Best Buy Preorder

Thread for people who have preordered the 8/8 Plus through Best Buy. Post status/shipping updates here.

I actually ordered a 256gb 8 Plus, Gold, AT&T yesterday through Best Buy - order status says it'll be delivered Friday but I'm questioning if that'll actually be the case. It says the status is "Pre-ordered" and I'll "get it by Friday, Sept 22".

After working the iPhone launches at bestbuy for the past few years be prepared to be disappointed. Bestbuy always seems to screw up preorders and we never get enough stock in for our preorders. The only thing that could be different is that the phones dont seem to be as high demand as the past years.

So let's just say I have no shipping information by tomorrow or Thursday at the latest - would I be able to walk into Best Buy (or wherever) on Friday and, if they have what I want in-stock, buy the phone in-person and simply cancel my preorder? Or would I run into problems with AT&T if I go that route (I actually bought this phone with Next instead of outright)?

Since you ordered through Next, just wait until your preorder gets there. If it says Friday, it should come Friday. You will know Thursday night if it has or hasn't shipped.

So let's just say I have no shipping information by tomorrow or Thursday at the latest - would I be able to walk into Best Buy (or wherever) on Friday and, if they have what I want in-stock, buy the phone in-person and simply cancel my preorder? Or would I run into problems with AT&T if I go that route (I actually bought this phone with Next instead of outright)?

We would have to cancel your order and then be at the mercy of ATT to undo your next upgrade then yes you would be able to get the phone in the store. Most of the time the upgrade almost reverses instantly however due to the influx of activations on Friday it can take some time.

That’s the thing - it reads like there will be in store pickup available Friday and shipped phones will be delivered Friday, but part of me feels like Best Buy could be flubbing the availability so people buy/preorder from them instead of Apple or the carriers.

I called BBY and they told me in store pickup reservations were first come first serve and that preordering for in store pickup did not guarantee a phone.

We have a list in store that shows people that preordered for in store pick up and walk ins. When we get the shipment of phones in we go down the list and match a phone with the name or the preorder. Most of the time we do not get enough units in to fulfill preorders for our online orders much less our walk ins. Any phones that we do have that do not match what customers order will go for sale for our walk in customers. For example if we got in 64GB Gold iPhone 8 for att and no one preordered that device then it goes up for walk ins.

Yup it happens every year. Target does it as well, in fact they are probably the worst in my opinion. You can search last years post for people waiting weeks for both target and bestbuy.

I go in tommrow,if you want to message me I can give you a rough estimate of how many phones we have gotten in and you can make a judgment. There is a good chance you will be good since demand doesn’t seem high this year. Heck I was able to order a phone last night and it will be here by next Tuesday.

Yup it happens every year. Target does it as well, in fact they are probably the worst in my opinion. You can search last years post for people waiting weeks for both target and bestbuy.

They do if you pay full price - but if you finance through carriers it’s the same price as if you had done it through the carrier directly.

Literally the ONLY reason I preordered through BBY is because they still showed launch day delivery dates but I’m starting to think I’ve been duped.

Apple site shows 9/26. Might be worth it to cancel ATT and re order from them. Not telling you to do that, but it is sooner and Apple is the best to order from imo and if they say a date, thats what it will be. Some even get them sooner when Apple ships. Good luck to you. That's crappy of ATT to do!

Do NOT feel bad - that was my call. You were just trying to help.

And sadly, I can’t ever use Apple.com to preorder with my current wireless setup. Even at age 28 I still am on my parents’ (grandfathered true unlimited) family plan and simply pay my portion...my dad’s credit card billing address is his PO box, Apple won’t let you specify a different shipping address (already checked), and Apple WILL NOT mail the phone to a PO Box.

Ordered a iPhone 8 Plus 256 AT&T on Sunday for in-store pickup for release day. Not holding my breath tho, if it takes a couple weeks to get one I may just cancel and wait longer for X. Only reason for ordering at Best Buy was reward and gift card.
