Actually, no, they didn't.
I was here in 2008 (as you were as well), I remember the endless bitching about it. "Why would I want flat keys when the powerbook keys are so comfortable!?!?!?!"

It was a great keyboard, as are the current ones, as are the butterfly ones. What people are opposed to is that they are different than what they've gotten used to in the last 8 years.

You are wrong. The rMB keyboard is fundamentally flawed because the the key travel is too low to provide proper feedback. It's a bad compromise in the name of 1mm more thinness.

...That didn't address the statement I made.

I think it does. You claim that people just need to get used to the keyboard. I think it is fundamentally flawed and no amount of "getting used to it" will make it as comfortable as a regular keyboard. I'm pretty sure Apple will give the keys more travel when they do a proper design upgrade of the Macbook. Other companies have proven that you can make notebooks that are just as thin without compromising the keyboard.

But they make other compromises, such as on the display, or weight, or footprint. That said, I do think they will tweak the design of the keyboard. The iPad Smart Keyboard actually has pretty decent key travel and is made with a similar design.
