God I hate people this like this. This is why we can't have nice things.

I'm truly confused as to what people are objecting about.

Their return policy is a "nice thing", but you propose I shouldn't use it? What is the point of having "nice things" if people don't use them? I'm not abusing it; I'm trying before I'm buying. It's their fault for not having it on display so I could try it before passing through the checkout.

I'm actually probably going to do that for a few Mac accessories... go in, buy them, make sure Battery Status works with them (so I can safely claim they're supported,) return them, and... yeah, I'll basically get to test everything without paying a cent (apart from on gas for the trip to pick up and return the items... that'll amount to about $3.)

I'm not abusing it; I'm trying before I'm buying. It's their fault for not having it on display so I could try it before passing through the checkout.

Your justified "logic" is sad. And you're most certainly not "trying before buying". You stated in your first post you're purchasing the item with the intent to return it.

Legal vs. Ethics

I think there may be a course in college that would be of interest. It's called "Ethics", or "Business Ethics". While it may be legal to purchase the product with the sole intent of returning the product, I don't see it as being ethical.

A more ethical approach could be advise the accessory manufacturer of your software idea, and see if they might be willing to loan you a sample product. As long as you can show them how it might reflect well on their product, some manufacturers are happy to send samples or loaners.

If it is an Apple accessory, go to the Apple Store and see if you could borrow an open stock item to use in the store, at least be up front with the store manager of your intent to test and return the product.

I understand being in debt, but Best Buy should not have to shoulder your debt burden, by wasting product, packaging and man hours helping you to make some extra cash.

That's interesting. Although if they're going to track your returns by your driver's license, wouldn't they also need to look at your driver's license whenever you buy something, to get a full picture of how often you return stuff vs. how often you buy stuff? And if they're going to ban you from buying at their store, wouldn't they also need to look at your driver's license when you try to buy something?

No, because it doesn't track your purchases, it tracks your returns.

Price Match

I had my local best buy price match my new 15" MBP on 3/3/12. I used macmall.com as my "competitor," the cool thing about my sales rep was the macmall MBP was the early 2011 model, i didnt know, and he could only had the late 2011 in stock, still hooked me up! Thank you saved $600!
