This is true, OP, you could also use the card for accessories like a case.

They also have a promo where you buy 3 accessories, you get 15% each or 4+ you get 20% each. I bought a hardshell for my 15" and two packs of printer paper and the promo worked. I think it also covers stuff like ink, headphones, video game controllers and such.

Also, definitely YMMV, but if you say you're buying it for, like, your niece that's going to college, they might give you the student discount. Again, definitely YMMV.

Wow, so many helpful posts!

Thanks everyone. We did end up going to Best Buy afterall, and now my mother is the proud owner of a 17" MacBook Pro! :D

Congrats! I also bought my MBA from Best Buy. I've always been against them because of how aggressive and tricky they are with their extras, but as long as you avoid that, you can get away with a pretty sweet deal!

Best part of buying most Apple stuff from BB, especially accessories, is you can just walk in, get it and pay rather quickly.

My Apple store is always overrun with 300 screaming kids messing with every display item and their clueless parents who are not going to buy anything but somehow keep all the employees busy. So, I end up standing and waiting a lot longer to ask a question or pay for something. Plus it involves circling the mall parking lot for a space like some sort of urban shark.
