When it comes to something like the iPod touch, you can basically get a new one every year for right around $100. (Sell your previous gen. at around a $100 loss on the 32GB for example). To me it seems silly. You're covered for everything for a year (just don't drop it, sit on it, or do anything stupid, accidents CAN be avoided).

One person had a good point in this thread that because apple products depreciate so quickly and become outdated so quickly that by the time you have an accident or something happens or the battery wears out you can probably buy a new one for the cost of what the warranty would cost. Also you can get additional value by selling your broken device on ebay. Most warranties won't give you a refund or give you the newest model if yours is outdated, retailers are onto that and they only give replacements of the original device purchased now.

Best buy would require you to send your device to a service center if they didn't have any of your exact model in stock (this could take A LONG TIME), or they would give you a refurbished replacement because from what I hear geek squad does give refurbs out sometimes. Apple gives you a refurb if you need a replacement.

Yeah, you got that exactly backwards.

I think he means that you can buy a new unit of the same model for cheap. For example, if my 3G Touch died I could buy a replacement 3G Touch for fairly cheap, as opposed to replacing it with a new 4G Touch for $500.

if you can find one...and he is incorrect, Apple will give you the newest model. My friend just had his MacBook (white) replaced with a MacBook Pro because of all the issues he has had over the last 1.5 years...He didn't pay a dime and applecare was very quick about getting him the new laptop

Another alternative ...

For $29 you can get a accidental extended warranty (15 months) through Toy-R-US. If you break it they will send you a check for the amount paid in form of credit back to Toy-R-US and you can buy a new one :)

Not a bad deal ...

Although the last time I checked the Toy-R-US in my area did not have the new iPod Touch in yet.
