FWIW, I bought a new 11" MBA at Best Buy last week and it has the Samsung 128GB SSD. Since it was $60 off Apple's price, plus the fact you earn RZ points as well, it was an easy decision for me to buy there instead of at the Apple Store. Plus their return/price match window is 45 days for RZ Silver members instead of just 14 days at Apple, so that's yet another reason I bought mine there.

The obsession with customer service is about respect. I don't give a rats butt how much they make they took the job and should do that job to the best of their ability and treat me friendly and with respect no matter what I am buying.
Ha. "Respect?!?!" That made me laugh pretty hard because its so pretentious and entitled. Especially when you end it by saying how you don't care how much they make as if their livelihood is somehow beneath you.

This attitude bs from workers extends into our society where no one gives a crap about anything. If a sales person cannot be polite and respectful to me I buy someplace else regardless of the price. If more people did this our overall buying experience would be better.
Again with the "Experience". It took me just as long to buy a Macbook Air as it did to explain "One whopper meal with no pickles, medium Dr Pepper and substitute onion rings". The "Experience" is inconsequential if you do your research and know what it is you want rather than trust the "friendly" opinion of a high school kid who works part time so he can ask go on a date with that cute chick from spanish class.

For me, I'll gladly be "mistreated" by an underpaid store employee if it results in me getting a significant discount because to me the "experience" begins AFTER I take the product home.

I bought at Bestbuy because I didn't want to spend 1 hour and half going to montréal? I don't think it matters where you buy it. its just a better buying experience at an apple store.

Well said...on ALL points. :)

Good job!:)

Yes, I will first go with the best deal. However, when the price is close, and because of some past bad experiences, I will hesitate to go to an Apple store.

its a good thing you dont run a business because if you didnt care how your employees treated people your business would be driven into the ground and die.

I won't buy anything from a BB store.

Just out of curiosity, why not? Now if you said you wouldn't trust what the people working their said, I might understand it. But if you do your homework, know what you want and get a good price, why does it matter where you buy it (assuming it's an authorized dealer that is)?

Just wanted to say that not everyone who works at Apple or Best Buy is simply there for the paycheck. I worked part time at an Apple store for about 9 months because I am passionate about Apple products. I already had a full time job putting in 40-45 hrs/week and often worked another 20 at the Apple store. I always said that I wasn't in sales but in customer service.

Believe it or not, there are some people out there (like me) who believe in customer service. Whether it is buying a $2000 laptop from Apple or a $6 meal from McDonald's, I believe that the salesperson should be courteous and polite and greet you with a smile. Like I said, I've been in the former position (Apple retail), but I'd do the same at McDonald's.

I recently went back to the Apple store I worked at on a visit home. I actually started talking to another customer, and when I said that I used to work at the store, she said that she thought I looked familiar. People remember good experiences just as much as they do bad ones.

To some people, it's just a job. Customer service be damned. But some companies like Chick-Fil-A and Apple (there are others, too) genuinely believe in service and they try to instill those values in their employees. You're right that it doesn't always happen. And a person will always have his/her own motives.
