Bought a refurbished Gold Air 2 from the Apple Store today. Would have preferred Space Grey but someone bought the last one before I could make a move.

It was still a very expensive purchase (only 128GB available) so I'm cringing at the £65 additional price tag they want to charge me for an official Apple Smart Case.

Is there a cheaper alternative that can do just as good a job or is the Apple case worth the expense?

Cheers!

I have an official Apple Smart Case for the iPad Air 2: Leather, in Midnight Blue.

It's as new.

I'd let you have it for £30.

If you're interested, let me know ...

Bought a smart case for my Air 2 from Amazon that was almost identical to the one from the Apple store minus the Apple logo on the back. Saved me $70 and it functions just as the over priced Apple version.

Can you please provide a link? I am very interested in this case.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and got the official Apple smart cover, a leather envelope-style sleeve, a zip-up soft fabric sleeve, a hard plastic shell and a tempered glass screen protector for the soon-to-be-mine Sony Z5 Compact phone from Amazon. All for £15 less than the official Apple Smart Case. So I think that worked out fairly well! I can use the device in all naked glory with just the smart cover when around the house and use all the various sleeves and shell whilst travelling on the train.

The regular slim smart cover has served my iPad Air extremely well, so I just moved that one over to my iPad Air 2. Still great.

Pretty good trick, considering that the Apple Smart Case costs $70! I'd like a free alternative, too! :). Or, did Apple raise the price?!

OK, just checked. ASC costs $80! Usually, the $10-15 cases are made out of synthetic materials-- and, that's good, as they are not the leather Apple uses in its cases (its covers are synthetic). Some are much better than others, but they all, including the ASC, seem to suffer from this problem or that. We always get cases, but somehow it seems ridiculous to take an elegant thin device and cover it up! Of course, it also makes the iPad much more comfortable to handle with a case on-- none of that harsh, cold, metal feel on the skin and, usually, not as slippery!
