So, I’m trying to decide between the iPad mini 6 and the iPad Air 5 for a complimentary device to my 2021 M1 12.9 iPad Pro. I am honestly leaning towards the iPad mini since I want something smaller and less expensive that I can take to bed with me. If you have the M1 12.9 iPad Pro or any iPad Pro, what did you go for as far as a secondary device between the iPad mini 6 and the iPad Air 5?

Thanks for the help! 🙂

Why not use your phone and save the money? Spending $500 on the mini just for bed when you already have devices seems a bit much.
Depends on the use. Personally I enjoy using the mini to read before bed. Also, my iPhone is the “main” device with all notifications enabled. The iPad mini is a much more focused device with all alerts off. It’s a nice context shift.

2021 12.9 & Mini 6 here - works great for me.

I have the 12 Pro Max and much prefer the screen size of the Mini 6.

I tried the new mini with my M1 iPad Pro but I just couldn’t get over the 60Hz everytime I switched. I just use my 13 Pro Max and 12.9” now.

Really shows how someone needs to try it on their own to see if they like it and not rely on others experience. The 60Hz & jelly scroll are non-issues for me.

It’s really just personal preference hence I recommend you try these devices for yourself to form your opinion. I am interested in the mini but just can’t find a good enough use case to justify the expense when I already have another iPad and a phone.

I would go with the mini.

Without reading the first post i thought this would be about a MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro as the best complementary device lol

I would grab up that $399 iPad mini from Best Buy, but I don’t have all of the money for it just yet. I figure that sale won’t last long either. Walmart has them for Amazon’s previous price of $409 if they can keep them in stock. Amazon is apparently having a problem doing them after dropping the prices from $409 to $399. I can’t believe a $10 difference would move that many iPad minis. 😂

I know my use case won't be yours but my set up is 13 pro max, fold 3 for my on the go tablet, 12.9 pro and 16 inch MacBook Pro. fold 3 is a lot of Money but I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon and I can still use it as my work phone as well so ticks many boxes.

I would go for the mini honestly, it's a great size for reading as others have mentioned and it feels a lot lighter than my iPhone 13 pro.

Most people can't tell the difference between 60 and 120hz. But just knowing they are different makes your brain think there's a bigger difference than there really is.

The 11 would seem like the good middle choice. Small and light, like the Mini, but the same power and Magic Keybaord support of the 12.9.

Pro 12.9 - desk + video editing - productivity

Pro 11 - all rounder

11 Pro Max - away from home
