Yeah, but those games on there are probably really expensive, no? And do they offer all the games that were for that console?

They aren't cheap, up to £7 per game. But it's rather cool to be able to later upgrade them to the Wii U versions and play on the gamepad. I've never played as many retro games (outside of their original console) as I have since getting the Wii U.

I prefer playing on the original consoles and have been slowly building up my NES and SNES libraries. There's something so good about using the original controllers and consoles, faults and all.

Agreed the Wii U is awesome for retro games - not only do you have the huge Wii VC to choose from, but also the updated versions on Wii U; on top of that for about $50 to $60 you can import a Club Nintendo Japan official SNES controller that works with the Wii and Wii U.

That is the main controller I use to play VC titles as well as games like Shovel Knight - absolutely brilliant.

If retro gaming to you means Playstation 1 well the PS3 has a nice collection to choose from including the Crash Bandicoot games that I'm playing through now.

Yup, I've got the EU controller. Didn't cost too many stars either, I think it was less than the Mario Galaxy soundtrack I also sent for :).

I like buying VC and retro games (for all platforms) because it's a way of getting them to play just great on modern TVs. And that by paying for them means I treat them with a bit more value than if I just downloaded a rom for my iMac or modded console. I've got emulators on my PSP Go with hundreds of roms and never really played them. I've only got around 30 (20 with the Ambassador programme) on the 3DS but I've played them to completion.

I've got a (legal) Spectrum emulator on my iPhone and iPad but it's nowhere near the same using a touchscreen.

As much as I'd like to legally play retro games (those that I don't have on my shelf!), Nintendo's virtual console pricing is ludicrous in this day and age, or rather it was already in 2006 when it launched. Emulators for the win. At least on PS3 you can buy most PS1 classics for 5 dollars and they are cross compatible with Playstation devices. Compare this to 10-12 dollars for N64 titles with no memory card or rumble support.

Nintendo really dropped the ball with the N64 Virtual Console, it hasn't even shown up on the Wii U yet. Just realised we don't even have Mega Drive games on it yet, it's just NES, SNES and GBA!

I prefer Sony's way of doing it, but much prefer classic Nintendo games. Awful really. Sony's infrastructure is incredible but Nintendo's games are... well... Nintendo! (although being able to actually play my VC games on the Wii U is an improvement over the PS4's complete lack of backwards compatibility)
