I bought a new iMac 27" a few weeks ago, max spec-ed, which I use primarily for App development work.
Can someone recommend software (application or game) that let's me see where "state of the art" is right now for making full use of the graphics this iMac has?
I don't play games on the desktop (very occasionally on my iPhone) so I've no idea what's available.
Not really wanting to fork out cash for something that I probably won't use, I just want to check it out, so something that's a free demo would be ideal. Thanks!

First time I have tried it on my new 2017 iMac, you are right, the fan isn't noticeable, on my previous fully specced 2014 model the fan noise was VERY noticeable.

I too have been looking for software to show off the GPU. I'm disappointed with the lack of good software out there, especially in the realm of fractals. Most of it is single-core only.

The day I got mine, and got it up and running, it's fan made a hell of a noise.
CPU was max-ed out for a good hour or so and the culprit was Dropbox, which, even though MacOS has restored everything from backup, including my dropbox folder, was doing it's own full restore from cloud.
It gave me concern that the machine would be too noisy for daily work but that hasn't transpired.
It's silent 99% of the time.
I had toyed with the idea of waiting until Xmas for the Pro which has a very advanced cooling system but I really don't need all that power and I like the easy RAM upgradability on the standard 27" iMac. (which I've got at 40G now)

I notice the same thing. Rarely hear the fan on my 2017 i7 iMac.
