I will be getting my first 1phone 4S tonight (arrived FedEx today) and want to use an e mail provider that can push e mail to the iphone and also sync the calendar. I also want to have he read mail on the phone show read on the computer.

Please let me know who is best.

    thanks,

Get the free iCloud / me.com account if you're looking for brand new email address anyway.

Yes there are! They just aren't paid anymore. You can set one up for free, when you set up your phone.

Exactly. When you're setting it up, choose to create a new iCloud ID.

When creating an iCloud account you have the option to create a free .me email.

Was my point that creating a new iCloud would give a .ME account -- thanks for clarifying, I wasn't clear. :)

It's not evident, which is why I assume the OP thought he couldn't get one.

I'm not trying to turn this post into a me vs. gmail post, but I would like to know you you guys are choosing .me over gmail if you don't mind sharing. I'm using gmail as exchange now, but if .me is better for some reason or another I'm open to change. My needs are shared calanders, contact sync and email (duh).

    Thanks for the coming insight.

I actually have both. I use my gmail account as my iCloud account - because that's been my apple I'd forever.

(I had a me.com prior to the transition).

Both work equally as well, I prefer the gmail web interface, but if he's only looking for pure integration in the iPhone the me.com would likely be best.

Tried to set up g mail as exchange and went to the apple store because it kept telling me that the password was wrong. Apple told me that you need and exchange server to set up g mail on exchange. So isn't up regular g mail. Is apple right. If so I really missed that. I thought google provided free sync e mail through their exchange.

    Please clarify

When I hear these stories, I get angry. They won't hire me, but they hired that idiot? You don't need an exchange server of your own.

Same here. I use the gmail app and the mail app. Easier for me to keep them separated.
