Only recently have I personally seen the value of extensions. My two favorite at the moment are PiPifier for safari allowing YouTube videos to play whilst my iPhone screen is off and am driving. Also thoroughly enjoying Wipr, having not seen any ads on YouTube, although still seeing ads on macrumors but that’s a different thread.

There’s gotta be others that are great, hidden undiscovered gems.

Please share them here.

I’ve been thinking about allowing him to create a YouTube channel. But what does this have to do with the thread topic at hand?

Too bad, IMO. I hate YouTube ads and will gladly do anything and everything to block them. It would be one thing if they showed one simple 5-15 second ad, but having to watch two or three ads, or a 5 minute infomercial before viewing a 2 minute YT video is ridiculous. Until YT implements a reasonable advertising policy, I'll use anything possible to block their ads. Somebody else's channel monetization isn't my problem.

One of my favorite extensions. Basically gives you the option to enable dark mode on all or specific web pages.

Haven’t seen a YouTube ad for weeks since first buying Wipr

However this is on YouTube.com in safari.

The YouTube app requires the premium subscription to remove ads, which I won’t pay for. I miss the old YouTube days. I miss the old internet.

I hung in there, until they started doing three ads in a row. Three different fourteen second, unskipable ads in a row, to watch a 30 second video.

And there are some channels that cram in all these ad breaks, after every minute of content - insane

Not sure what YouTube you’re using but I can skip most ads after 5 seconds.

Two ads, every 1.5 minutes in a 10 minute video, with at least half of them being unskipable?

That’s called abuse, not a service.
I was about to say what videos are you watching but then I remembered that Carwow’s review videos are absolutely horrendous for adverts almost every 1.5/2 minutes. I hate it.

Here is a way to skip YouTube ads - watch in safari, if an ad pops at the beginning, hit the reload button for safari, after the page reloads it should go directly to video without an ad. I’ve been doing this for a little while now and works every time without fail.

If enough people block all the ads and don't use Premium then Youtube is eventually going to do *something* to forcibly monetise the service - banning accounts that use adblockers, not loading pages if you have an ad blocker etc etc. They already screw content creators out of as much revenue as possible so this isn't a bridge too far for them IMO.

Don't forget - ad placement is almost always decided by the creators. If the videos you've chosen to watch have too many ads in them then take it up with the creator, or watch someone else's videos.

If they had a way to block a channel from appearing in my searches/list, I definitely would

You can do that actually, they just don't make it super clear. Just go to a video posted by whatever channel you want to hide and there should be a three-dots style menu somewhere - that menu will have a block option in it.
