Best external display for a MBP

Short: What is the best display for a MBP?

Long: I have one of the new unibody MBP's (15" base model). I was wondering what monitors people would recommend for an external display. The obvious choice is the 24" LED backlit display apple offers, but it is exceedingly expensive. Surely there are other monitors to seriously consider. So what monitors would you all recommend? Use the price of the apple LED backlit monitor as a ceiling price.
