"Best" external hard drive for daily Carbon Copy Cloner backups?

1TB SSD for $44? I think I have been living under a rock. I never thought I would live the day to see SSD price comes equal to HDD. I even heard chips are in constraints and everything after covid got more expensive . Is there a reason to buy HDD anymore? I am guessing price difference hit with bigger sizes for servers like 10TB but what about home use?

Is there any difference between those ssd sticks and 2.5 sizes?

Certainly. With TM the larger the drive you get the longer the history you can save so for less money you get get a larger drive which preserves more history. If stored off-site a backup on a HD will keep its data longer than an SSD. TBW values for an SSD can be lower than for a HD. The price gap is narrowing in the lower sizes.

idk, from discussing it here I am afraid the HDD will have a spring or some mechanical failure in storage 🤷‍♂️

True, the best archival storage is tape I think. A mechanical failure on a HD might happen. An SSD will eventually lose its data.
