Best external HD?

What are good reliable brands for external HDs? I'm looking for 500GB and up, for $150 or less. Also, from what I've read around here, firewire seems to be faster for external HDs, so what companies have firewire drives?

I've had good luck with buying American Media Systems external enclosures and slapping in my own drive.

Everyone has their favourites. I have a WD MyBook drive. They come in USB only, USB/FW400 or USB/FW400/FW800. I find FW400 to be faster than USB for large transfers (like clones and movie files).

Your ONLY bet is an enclosure and some random drive from eBay or Craigslist.
Sorry but at that price point I'm not seeing it.

I found an external 500GB with USB for $119. I didnt think firewire would add that much cost, but I could be wrong. How much is a good 500GB drive with FW?

Costco in Canada sells the MyBook Premium (USB/FW400) for CAD$159+tax. at least they did a few weeks ago.
