Best external microphone

I would like to record my music sessions. Will I get a better result if I use an external microphone? If so, please can you recommend one.

Hey! I still use my 90's microphone and it works like a charm! I have to clean it inside from sand, dust and water every 5 years but I'm sure you would love it. I'm posting a link to the picture of the product:
