Best external monitor?

Any ideas on what is the best monitor for use with a Retina MacBook Pro?

I don't want to spend out £1799 on a laptop and use it at stand resolutions 😛

Give it a few weeks, and I'll tell you how an IBM T221 works.

3840x2400, 22.2", IPS, 204 ppi.

Discontinued in 2005, but they pop up on eBay often enough.
