Best firmware for iPhone 2G

Got a feeling I might be a little late to the party here 🙂 Thing is, I just got an iPhone 2G and its a little laggy (surprise!!). Its on firmware 2.2 with modem firmware 4.05.04. I was wondering which firmware is the best for the 2G in terms of responsiveness, speed and overall performance?

Gotta make the best of what you got, right??!! 🙂

The highest you can go on a 2G is 3.1.3 so I'd plug it to itunes and restore/update to that.
