I'll be upgrading to the 27" imac next month and was wondering what the best font software is with maverick? My current imac uses an old version of fontxplorer. I'm a graphic designer so fonts are an important part of my work. Is font book worth trying, I remember quitting it years ago because it kept having problems, is that still the case?

I've never has problems with Font Book. I don't see any need to look to 3rd party apps for fonts.

The problem is that fonts have to be on demand at all times when they're with the system fonts. It's not ideal for dealing with thousands of different typefaces. Your computer's performance will suffer greatly. It's like having to run Spotlight every time you created a new file basically because every app you open has to cache them all.

Fontcase was retired recently. My college uses Suitcase Fusion which is pretty good.

I gave up on Font Book a long time ago. I use FontExplorer X Pro. Have used it for a few years to manage my font collection which is getting close to 80,000 fonts. It integrates with Adobe, Quark and OS X with no issues. I have not personally used Suitcase Fusion, but do know people who do, and it is on par with FontExplorer X Pro. I do design & web work as well so understand where you are coming from.
