It depends on the individual's surfing habits. Seeing as I

a.) Like flash and play flash games at times
b.) Usually browse the net slouched on the couch / in bed where I want a machine that props itself up and
c.) Like my 15" screen for internet surfing

I voted MBP.

when the ipad was released it was said to be the best web surfer.
The only thing "Magical & Revolutionary" is how refined and effective Apple's "Hype Machine" is. No matter what one thinks of flash, the fact is it's a big part of the web experience. If the iPad was made by any other tech company it would be attacked and demeaned for it's lack of flash.

apple has been attached and demeaned for its refusal to adopt flash but flash is never going to become part of iPhone OS. apple is trying very hard to push the HTML5 and CSS3 standards through and to make the web run on open-source code rather than proprietary technology.

that said, it would be nice to be able to watch flash content on an iPad but the fact that YouTube holds 40% of the webs videos and iPhone OS plays YouTube videos lessens the impact of not being able to

I don't have an iPad, so I didn't vote – however, I have played with one extensively, in the Apple store, when I decided not to get one.

I would prefer a MacBook Pro for web surfing. The lack of Flash support is a deal breaker for me. That doesn't mean that I like flash; it just means that there's a lot of web content I want to see, in Flash. Especially slide shows. Additionally, the screen is too low resolution for displaying pictures as I want. Also, even for web surfing, I want a keyboard. Also, as someone else mentioned, I like to surf the web reclined and slouched, and I prefer something which is easier to prop up at a nice viewing angle.

I do think the iPad has lots of potential, and I may change my preference, in a generation or three.

I'd go for the iPad. I'm currently using a 2006 15" MacBook Pro as my mobile surfing experience. It's a pain in the ass to use anywhere that isn't a table. It also gets hot as hell (thanks to Flash ;)).

I definitely love my MBP, and would never give it up, but the iPad is just a much better browsing experience. It feels like you're browsing the internet in a magazine.

Quite frankly, as Steve said, holding the internet in your hands. Nothing compares.

Why? Cause of the touchscreen?

If so, Dell laptops have an optional touchscreen display. So maybe the MBP will get touchscreen later in an update :p

It's a much more comfortable experience to use an iPad over a notebook. Also a touch screen on a desktop OS really is quite poor.

For me I did choose the iPad :D
What I usually use the Internet is Facebook, Youtube, MacRumors Forums :D, Engadget, TUAW, and other web site WITHOUT FLASH :D:D:D (This the point) ;)

There will become more and more website using HTML5 : )

It's really depends on what kind of web you go
