Decided I'm going to start ripping my DVD collection. I play via medialink to my PS3 and I'd like to throw then on my iPhone whenever I'd like. I started converting some of my avi TV shows to mp4 and I've had some issues playing on my PS3 but maybe it was a fluke. I also have the VLC Player on the iPhone but id prefer the iPod app for now. I'm also thinkig of maybe getting an apple TV later, but not sure if for sure or when.

So Mp4 or avi or what? Id rather do just one version and not one for ps3 and iphone Best with handbrake and auto hatching. Also are Mkv beneficial for DVDs too or just bluray?

I only use my PS3 to play Blu-Rays & games, so im not sure if the PS3 will play ALL the type of video files youre looking for... But, if the PS3 plays the video files you have and you just want to be able to see it in your iPhone, you can try the Plex app ($4.99), although it needs your home wifi network, it works flawlessly.

Not quite what I want to do here. PS3 does play most audio files, but it's not a 100%, but much better than the iphone.

I just tried out the VLC player and noticed that larger .avi files it has a hard time processing and doesn't like to play. So I'm thinking I maybe should stick with mp4 since the iPhone can play those no matter what the bitrate is, and the PS3 should handle them just fine. Handbrake also looks to have migrated to mostly mp4 since the shell has so many features.

But are there any other suggestions or opinions on this?
