Is there any good free software to rip my DVDs so I can put them on my PC and stream them via Air Video? I think I remember a discussion here about a free one that worked well, but I can't find it anywhere...

It has presets for the IPad and will not only rip DVDs, but convert video files. I stumbled across it when looking for something to convert the .MTS files from my Sony HD camcorder into .MOV files for e-mailing to family who are all Mac users. The quality is stunning, I haves ripped over 30 titles to date and have about 5 of them on my IPad 3G 64gb right now.

I'm using iskysoft too & it work great but it's not free though,,
BTW, sorry if it's of the topic, but what is your converting setting for ipad? with default setting the file size almost 4X times the original size??

Yes I know the OP asked for free, I've been reading for over 45 years now (sorry I couldn't resist).
As too the second question, I am using the built In IPad setting.
I tried Handbrake and was satisfied with the video quality, so I tried the paid program. I was simply was offering a suggestion, the OP can try both a choose the program that fulfills his need.

Iskysoft is just one of the literally 100's of such apps that take a free encoder and wrap a ui around. There is nothing inherently unique about the encoder that would render video encodes faster or higher quality than the free ones. But some people feel better paying for something. 😉
