I have textnow and use it for texting only! Im interested in how the phone call portion works now? I do believe I have a google voice number? so the person calls my google number and it gets routed to my phone? does it take minutes off the ATT plan and how does the phone number show up if anything on the phone bill? Hmmmm

Textfree issues you a USA phone#.
Texting is free, voice call you need to purchase minutes.

I think incoming voice minutes are free. If you use it with google voice, voice minutes are free when someone calls your google voice number. It is also free when you call someone (outgoing) using google voice's "call back" feature. It is free because you tell google you want to call "1-800-whatever," google calls you (thus textfree voip sees it as an incoming call, which is free) and then google calls the number you want (1-800-whatever) and connects you.

As far as I know, Textfree only uses data so it will show up as data on your phone bill, not minutes. If you have wifi, it will use that instead.

You can receive calls from anyone anywhere using any number, as long as the caller dials your Textfree number properly.
If you are to make calls out, you can only call a USA phone #.

If the program is active, and phone is on standby, it should ring when a call comes in.

Hmmm...mine doesn't seem to work. If my phone's screen is off I don't get the call. I wonder if it has to do with the push notification problems I have do to unlocking...

Google Voice Number: Incoming Ring / Notification? on which App?

I am able to use Talkatone with my GV Number to make outgoing calls over VoIP (Using Wifi for now) for free.

But despite having several apps: Talkatone, Google Voice, GVMobile, GV+ etc. I am unable to have my iPhone RING when I get incoming calls & receive calls on the iPhone incoming to the Google Voice number.

Is anyone using a certain App & config that works here please do let me know?

Talkatone will definitely ring on incoming calls to your GV # but the problem with it is that even if Talktone is in your multi-tasking bar, it's inconsistent as far as whether it will ring or not. It's almost like you have to remember to open up the app like every hour or so in order for it to stay signed in. I don't know if they need to update the app or what but if it could stay signed in, it would be great. Go ahead and try it.

Google Voice

Why use VoIP when you can use GV phone extension app. Works flawlessly.

I use it to make free calls as a callback. It's free calling since I have AList with AT&T and my google # is on my AList.

It's called phone extension GV in Cydia and works intergrated with native iPhone app.

It only works for free calling if you have AList so you can put your google # in your aList.

I make a call and choose callback. My iphone rings then I answer and then I'm connected to call. The number that is calling me back is my google voice # which is a free call because it's on my AList.

My primary purpose for using GV is because I am out of the US quite a bit. At those times I have WiFi & 3G access with a local SIM card, but want to be REACHABLE on my GV Number on my iPhone.

At this point my GV settings might not be correct and somehow I think its pointing to my Landline or Cell in the US.

Question: How do I make INCOMING CALLS.. RING my iPhone (currently they always go to VM) through the Internet without using any Telco/ Cell phone minutes?

Talkatone will definitely ring on incoming calls to your GV # but the problem with it is that even if Talktone is in your multi-tasking bar, it's inconsistent as far as whether it will ring or not. I dont even mind trying it with Keeping Talkatone OPEN because at times when I am outside the US, I schedule my calls so I can talk.
The question is how do I make sure the iPhone RINGS and lets me received the call and talk instead of going to the GV voicemail.

Whats this A List?

PS: Another article I have to read and I wonder if this will still work.

Have you updated to the latest version of Talkatone ? I used to have the problem you speak of until the last couple of versions. Now the only thing is you have to load up Talkatone everytime you reboot/respring. For me, it answers every google voice call as long as it is running in the background.

What i like about talkatone is you can use it over wifi, 3G service is NOT required unlike GV/Google Voice extension which has to have 3G/data access and cannot work on wifi only.

You have to log in to your GV account and forward your calls to chat. Once you do that, just make sure you've followed the directions in the Talkatone app. If you do everything correctly, your phone will ring when someone calls your GV # and it won't come out of your cell plan's minutes. Everything you need to know to set it up is written out in the Talkatone app.

I do have the latest version of Talkatone and I've still noticed the problem. I guess it's possible that I'm respringing at some point during the day and not even realizing it but shouldn't Talkatone survive a respring anyway?

It never survives a respring for me. I have to remember to reload it after a respring. Its an annoyance.....

So you're saying that after a respring it's no longer in the multi-tasking bar or it's there but your phone doesn't ring when someone calls your GV #?

After a respring, I have to restart Talkatone, its deamon (or whatchamacallit) is not active until I restart it. Once I restart talkatone works fine until the next respring or reboot.

Also using "Free Up Memory" under Processes in SBSettings sometimes removes Talkatone's daemon.

Well I have not resprung since last night and I just tried to call my GV # and my phone didn't ring. I checked to make sure Talkatone was in the multi-tasking bar and it was (I even opened it up again) so I called my GV# again - phone still didn't ring. Something is still not right because it's just very inconsistent for me. It doesn't do me much good to have it running in the multi-tasking bar if the stupid thing doesn't even notify me of an incoming call.

Hmmm, that is an issue I havent experienced in the past 3 months at least (the last few update versions). I use it on iOS 4.1 and 4.33 and both iOS versions seem compatible with it. Maybe another daemon is interfering with it, something like Backgrounder or RemoveBG. Whats your iOS version and what tweaks do u have installed. I remember back when I used MyProfiles, it somehow interfered with Talkatone.......

EDIT: Have you tried posting this issue on their blog with your details? Im sure they would like to hear about bugs.

alist you can put 10 numbers and incoming and outgoing calls are FREE with AT&T. Other carriers have similar.

I primarily need this to RING on incoming calls, via WiFi on my iPhone when I am outside the country.

VoIP DID for those who get that term?

Have you set it up like I mentioned earlier? If so, it should ring on incoming calls, although I've found that it doesn't work every single time even if you have the app in the multitasking bar. There is an update out for Talkatone but I haven't updated yet and I'm wondering if maybe the new update fixes that problem.

You mentioned earlier that you schedule your calls anyway so you should have no problem getting this to work for your purposes. If you actually have Talkatone open, it will definitely ring.
