Best game controller for iPad Pro?

I’m partial to the feel of Xbox controllers- does anyone have a strong recommendation for pairing a controller to the M1 iPP?

I've got the Xbox One Controller. It worked well with my 2018 12.9 but I haven't used it with my 2021 12.9 (though I expect it to be as good there).

Can you use Xbox controllers to play games you get through the App Store? Or is it just games you stream through Xbox Cloud? I was disappointed to find out the Xbox Cloud Gaming stuff for iPad was limited to an invitation-only beta for now. I would have went out and bought an Xbox controller and Game Pass Ultimate if I could have played those games right now.

I purchased an Xbox controller yesterday and have successfully connected it to my 12.9" M1. It works with many native iOS games. I'm trill trying to figure out which ones — some are listed as controller compatible in the App Store, some aren't but still work.

So far I've successfully played Sonic CD, X-Plane, Dadish 2, Grid Autosport, Asphalt 9, and Grand Mountain Adventure with the controller.

I understand game controllers are supposed to work with GeForce Now and some Steam games, which I have yet to try.

The only thing that bugs me is that the iPad Settings app says the controller needs a firmware update, but I don't know if this is possible without an Xbox or a Windows PC.

I just read today that Cloud gaming will be rolled out to everyone very soon.

Very cool. I hope that is the case. I’ll probably be buying an Xbox Series X around August/September, but I’d like to play sooner than that too or just on my iPad Pro in general.

I use an old DualShock 4 (ps4) controller and find it works well.

As far as Xbox controllers go, the Xbox one controller is a good option

I purchased the Microsoft Elite Controller Series 2. I have the Series 1 for my Xbox/PC, so this seemed like a good choice as I'm familiar with its feel and capabilities.
