What is the best GPU that you can use with a Mac Pro 4.1 without having to mess with an external GPU or converter cables? I would prefer just a solution where I can plug it in with the existing cables available in the MP. Thanks

I went with a GTX 760. But I was quite conservative and only considered cards with 2x 6 pin power connectors. Plenty of people have had no issues using 8 pin to 6 pin converters and the like with more powerful cards, but I wanted to minimise my risk, and the 760 is plenty powerful enough for my use.

The new GTX 970 and 980, and AMD R9 285 are showing promise for more performance while using less power, and should all be able to run on the available 2x 6pin connectors, but driver support is still patchy at best at this stage.
