Hey, was wondering what’s the best card i can get? I wanna be able to run at least a 4K monitor. And as for as intel processor, whats the best one i can use? Thanks!

with mojave the radeonVII is the best option and also a very good option for catalina
pixlas mode is recommended

in catalina there is also the 5700XT, but the drivers are poor for this card in 10.15.3

And... What's the best GPU for Davinci Resolve 16 on cMP 5.1, 48 GB RAM, 3,33 MHz single processor, SO Mojave?
Now I've onboard Sapphire Tri-X R9 270x.

hi, i have just updated my 5,1 single cpu with a MSI R9 270x running on Mojave seems to be ok and also has the boot screen i only use my mac for music so didnt really go for super gfx speed but a welcome update to the 5770 1 gb that was in it so it allowed the update to Mojave.
I did buy a nice Sapphire 4gb 290 oc tri x but then found out it didn't work and no bios update available.. at the time i didnt know as i was trying to join this forum to find out more but running a vpn for some reason flagged my application! so ended up buying it anyway only to find out it did not work at all. The card was fine on the pc though and gave a higher Cinebench R15 score than my EVGA 3gb 1060!

@Rosecroft i was trying to find out the same thing, i didnt want a games graphics card just one that allowed the update to Mojave. but then i kept finding if i spent that bit more I gain a faster and better card. Would be nice to have a list of options for the 5,1`s that are compatible and can be bios updated with the boot screen.
I`m kinda new to the mac world so everything is a Question :)

Has the Radeon VII the boot screen on cMP whit Mojave?
Pre-boot configuration support with MP5,1 had the official support ended with Mac Edition cards (eVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition and Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition). All newer GPUs have to be third party flashed to have pre-boot configuration support, since they are UEFI/GOP while MP5,1 is EFI/UGA.

AMD Radeon VII is a GPU card that only has UEFI support, GOP pre-boot configuration support, and only will show boot-screens with Macs that have support natively GOP, Mac mini 2018 (via eGPU) and 2019 Mac Pro (eGPU and PCIe). No third party flashing support for VII yet.

Said that, OpenCore has a work-in-progress pre-boot configurations support for GOP GPUs with MP5,1 and works enough already with AMD Radeon cards like RX 580, Vega and VII.

Is it possible stay onboard my old r9 270x only for booting and then use the new Radeon VII?

Possible is, with external PSU or Pixla's mod, but it's not recommended.

It's best to learn how to use OpenCore and have OpenCore pre-boot configuration support - OpenCore boot menu works fine.

I have a Mac Pro 2008 3,1 running Windows 10 that I am upgrading. I am thinking of installing a
EVGA GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER BLACK GAMING card. These cards draw a lot of power. I am concerned that the Mac Pro case cant dissipate this heat. Anybody care to comment?

Thermals won't be a problem, while power could be, but the major problem is that RTX cards require UEFI Windows installs and MP3,1 only have CSM/legacy support for Windows.

That's like putting an F1 engine in a wheelchair. The card's worth more than the rest of the machine.
