Will a graphics card help with browsing the web?

Chipset Model: GeForce 6600LE
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
Slot: SLOT-1
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 128 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0142
Revision ID: 0x00a4
ROM Revision: 2149

On a side note how does the 2x processor help is it that much faster than the 2.0

No, a new graphics card will not help with browsing the web.

If it's slow it's because you are using a PowerPC Mac. There are ways to mitigate this (but not eliminate it). See the two posts related to TenFourFox in the stickied part of this subforum for starters.

Oh I've got Ten four Fox along with Ten five Youtube, The ten five youtube is a lifesaver!! Do the two physical processors help, I might have one that I can get cheap.

@markc2 While TenFourFox is not GPU accelerated, I have regardless noticed greatly improved browsing performance when I upgraded from a GeForce 6600 to a flashed Radeon X1900 GT. So evidently, it WILL help with browsing the Web. Not to mention GUI performance.

However, all OEM GPUs for your model of G5 are very expensive, save for the regular 6600, which almost isn't worth upgrading to considering the alternatives. If you wish to cost-effectively upgrade to a better GPU, your best option lies with flashing a Radeon X1900 GT or Radeon X1950 GT, albeit the latter requires slightly more setup to get working on 10.4 and 10.5. From start to finish, it won't take you any more than an hour or two if you follow the instructions.

And yes, since TenFourFox is very much multi-threaded (all 42 of them), two CPUs / cores will help by a great amount. Ensure that you install foxPEP to fully leverage them.

This goes along with my post from yesterday. Nothing you do will speed the internet up at all on anything PPC, sadly. Which is why I think we need to create UB once ARM macs come out since ARM is close to PPC as a RISC cousin.

Just keep an eye out and be patient. Skip the 256/6600 as well. I grabbed a the 7800 for my DC 2.3 and was only out $35 for it. I would still hold on to your 6600LE too, it'd be perfect for troubleshooting or for additional monitors.

I don't really use it anymore.. the only computers I still use are my Mac Pro 5,1, my G4 TI 1GHZ which is next to me currently, my 2012 Macbook Pro and 2015 MacBook Pro which is hardly being used, though I wanted one. Now, I feel I wasted my money on it, but I am also trying to downsize my macs. The G5 Quad, though in great condition is not really worth it. Also, afraid to hook it up and use it due to a high electric bill.

It really isn't and unless you are going to write all of the drivers needed, trying to retrofit Big Sur etc onto old hardware is never going to happen. Take a look at the Snow Leopard for PPC thread for what you are up against x1,000,000.

I am not suggesting Big Sur to run on PPC, no.. I am just seeing where the PPC is heading now that the ARM REVOLUTION is starting soon with arm macs - which you could say is like "think different II"
