I want to create 2 sets of encodings from my blu-ray sources:
  • 1080p for viewing at home
  • Lower-res for viewing on mobile devices (iphone and ipad) to keep file sizes down.
I'll combine them as HD/SD in iTunes by setting the cnID in Subler. Settings choice for the HD encode is simple: ATV3 preset. I'd like some advice about the lower-res encodes though. Options I'm considering are:
  • iPad preset: still looks to be 720p, will it reduce file size much vs the ATV3 preset?
  • iPhone/iPod Touch preset: as this is compatible with all iPhones back to the original, is it a bit outdated in terms of quality vs file size now?
Any advice appreciated.
