I <3 In-Ear now.

I prefer my in-ear headphones now, even though I used to hate them (they used to make my ears red). If you're the same way, check out the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5Pros that I just got....sooo soft you don't even know they are in. That and the dual-drivers contained in the small space provide amazing bass and crisp highs...with no distortion.

If anyone is looking for a good set of in-ear headphones that are not uncomfortable and provide studio quality sound, go for Ultimate Ears. That way you don't end up wearing huge cans on your head while you jog or just chill. Oh, and they're as sound-canceling as the best Bose headphones you can buy.

Ultimate Ears

I have used and worn out 5 or 6 pair of the Sony's, including the white set. This spring, I started shopping for a new pair. I tried the ER, and the Shure ranges, but decided on the Superfi 5 Pro phones. I've been wearing them for 3 months, and they are far and away the best for me. Clear sound, excellent isolation, requires lower volume settings, comfortable, lots of accessories. Other opinions may vary, but I recommend giving them a try before buying anything else. http://www.ultimateears.com/superfi/superfi.htm

I just ordered the Sony MDR-EX71SLW in white. If Amazon deliver on time, I should have them by Friday, and I'll say what I think when I get em. From what I'v heard, they're the best for the price, but can be a bit 'bassy'. They were £25 from Amazon, for all you UK folk.

I've got a set in black, as round here the scum target white headphones.
They sound awesome for such cheap headphones, the bassiness doesn't bother me.
I'll get some more expensive ones once I've found some in black

I have a couple pairs of the Sony MDR-E828LP in ear buds,
great sound for cheap price -

Grados sound awesome, the SR60 is an amazing value. They do leak alot of sound if you want to wear them in public be aware.

I tend to like the Shures myself. I have the E4's. With a pocket line out and and amp, and you are in audiophile heaven (your wallet will sting a little)!

At home, I like to use my Sennheisers hd280 Pros. Studio-grade headphones- I'm able to get beautiful sound from aac-formatted (and some mp3) music. Just goes to show you, unless you're going to need to amplify a LOT, there's no point in going any higher than aac...

I guess these aren't good iPod headphones cuase you can't take em anywhere. Too big, and you don't want them to get stolen....

got the E3cs. never looked back. great cord length and thickness, sound quality, comfortable, and come with a case.

I like my sony MDR D66 "eggo" headphones. I got them imported during my minidisc days, and like them with my ipod as well.

I love my in-ear headphones for normal use.

-Comfortable
-Blocks out external noises.
-Good Bass (best with the EQ set to Bass)
-Looks good
-Small, easy to carry
-etc. etc. etc.

Apple ones? Because I ordered a pair today, and I hope they're good.

I'm with Jim Reed on this one. I've had other in-ear sets before and they've all worn out over time. I had a pair of Koss' but one of the earbuds ripped right off the cable (and I didn't even pull hard, I was just untangling it). Others just get distorted after regular use. I've had my UE Super.Fi 5Pros for over a month now, I use em' everyday. They're sturdy to last a long time and user friendly in the comfort sense as well. Check the links posted on these, they're the best, no joke.

I'm going to have to get on-board with the Koss PortaPros. At $70 (CDN) I think they're well worth it. I have had them for about 3 or 4 years now and have returned two pairs (both of which were ruined by me being an idiot, but were still replaced). As the others have mentioned the bass response is so much better than I could have expected... as for the 80's look, doesn't bother me too much. It gives me some sort of satisfaction when I hear people around me occasionally make comments about "those ****** headphones"...
As for the Grados. Are they really that good? I remember reading that they are so much better if you have an amplifier for the iPod because they require more than the iPod can put out to really work. Can anyone comment on that?

if your in a noisy environment, try the bose ambient sound cancelation headphones (cant remember the name). theyre amazing. to think they actually "listen" to the noise on the outside then omit inverting sound waves to the part covering your ears.. you wont hear anything from the outside at all. great for planes

I use those too. I've bought about 6 pairs. The're fine for ear buds, and I find them more comfortable than the Appple buds.

I don't think the sennheiser are sweetlooking, i think they are extremely ugly, am I the only one?

The Sony 71s are great but are very fragile, 3 pairs have broken, the plastic covering the cable in the white version seems to be weaker than in the black version, mine white cables start breaking in a couple of weeks.

Should have said sweetsounding I guess  It's been a few weeks down the line, still think everything about the sound of these PX200-babys is awesome (such a beautiful bass). Except... I nearly got run over three times now, 2 cars and 1 tram, because as soon as I put them on, everything else is turned off.
Also the frame and the cables are built to be extremely sturdy (everyone who has ever had broken headphones, raise their hands), and comes with a box to carry it in. So when I get run-over, at least I know my headphones will survive :D

I listened to the 150 + headphones before but I think if you want quality for the money, the Sony 71-sl is good enough. I have a pair and they are AWESOME. Got them for around 50usd, great price! and you won't need to handle them with as much care

I fully agree. I'm very disappointed with the etymotics 6i. Very poor base compaired to the Sony 71's expecially considering the 6i is almot 3x the price

revision 10/1/05

I asked Etymotic to send me a sampler of alternate ear bud tips. The large flanged tips fit my ears tighter and the base is significantly better. I'll post more after listening.

I am very happy with my etymotics and strongly recommend them. I have the ER6 and ER4S. While it is true they don't have big base at the bottom, most of my music is not base intensive. If you listen to lots of hard rock and rap, I recommend the Grado 60. I have those as well, and they have real strong base.

Call me old-fashioned... but the Apple In-Ear Headphones totally do it for me. They sound 800x better than the included ear buds and they don't hurt the ears. Hot.

Last week I got a pair of Bang and Olufsen A8 earbuds. They sounds amazing.
I don't like the ear canal types like Shure as I find them uncomfortable (like having a cue tip stuck in my ear).

The sound quality is crisp and amazingly clear.
- mini amplifiers built into each earbud
-poly diaphram with rubber surround unlike other brands with metal diaphrams that sound tinny.
- crystal clear vocals and high frequencies

Where did you guys buy these? Man, I've googled them but can't find a store to buy them at.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if you're in Sydney or not but I purchased mine at David Jones city store.

I have the Shure E-2's and they are so much better than the Sony 71's I had before. The bass sounds normal and the sound isolation is fanastic. They are bit pricey though, but since I work at Best Buy, the discount makes them well worth it. That my 2 cents.

Bern- if you go to Bang and Olufsen's website, they have a store locator on there that will let you know where to buy them at.

These are the most underrated earbuds Sony makes. If they cost $40, they would be worth it. They have great bass, accurate mids and clean highs, all balanced very very well.

I bought a couple in case they stop making them.

My e4c's are the most uncomfortable things I have ever worn.

My favorite buds right now are the Sony mdr-XB22ip which have the iPhone controls. I think they also sell them without the iPhone buttons and mic for 10 bucks less as the xb21. Flat cable, good solid but not rattling bass solid and crisp mids and highs. For full headphones I prefer the xb700, great balance with more oomph on the lows... Much like the Koss Portapros which sound great but feel really flimsy... Best headphones I bought for under 50 bucks though.

Bought a pair of Grado sr80s 10 years ago, I like them but they are underpowered for use on any of the iDevices without a headphone amp. Also the bass is a bit lacking for my personal tastes and I predominately listen to rock which isn't bass heavy. Headphones like Sony's xb700 just sound fuller to me... Even if it is less "accurate."
