There has been quite a bit of talk about this particular model and heat, it even mentions it on Logitech‘s website.

What would be the ambient temperature when yours was cooking itself?
probably in the 90s. Austin can be hot. However, it still probably shouldn't matter

Jesus 32 deg C? That’s so hot to us in the UK. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem here but you would think they would engineer to not be too phased. My ring doorbell doesn’t suffer even on the odd occasion it gets to 30 plus!

I pretty regularly see 115F (46C) here and my Ring Doorbell has not died yet after 3.5 years, but the image is getting foggy around the edges I think from the heat discoloring the lens, so I'm in search of a replacement.

Oh heck yeah... the AC goes on in early April or so and stays on all summer.

We do have pretty nice weather outside those 3-4 hot summer months to make up for it.

Ambient temperature isn’t the issue though. I’m guessing if it’s in direct sunlight when it’s 90 out it’s probably well over 120 inside the device…. Could easily be over 150 even if in that temperature long enough.

Some of the Amazon reviews are saying this happens in 90F in the shade. So it sounds pretty bad.

Here is another unfortunate situation with this doorbell. With iOS15, Apple changed something in the HomeApp and now my doorbell preview is cropped. I think Apple wanted to remove the black bars on left and right, but at the same time, the top and bottom part of camera view is cut off. I am very upset about this change, cause now if I want to check if there is something laying on the ground, I need to actually click on the camera.
I noticed this with the Home app on the Watch too. Even clicking on the video crops it but you can actually see the full image while it’s ”grayed” and loading. Ridiculous.

I like the Unifi G4 Doorbell, requires a raspberry pi and homebridge to become "homekit" and it requires a UNVR or DreamMachine to function properly. But overall I like it :D

Thankfully Belkin has announced another HKSV doorbell, so at least there's another option other than Logitech. It's a bit pricey for the features offered, but welcome to Homekit I guess.

I recently tried the Logitech Circle View doorbell, but it's going back. Unfortunately, this doorbell doesn't allow for a 2nd doorbell button due to its unique wiring diagram (used for my rear door). This is a dealbreaker for me. My Ring Pro has no problem with this setup. From the Q&A from Belkin, looks like it shouldn't be a problem with this doorbell either.

Also, like others noted, the logitech runs super hot. Not a problem for me now (it's -10C), but I could see it being a problem on a hot summer day.

The best Homekit doorbell isn’t actually a doorbell….get an Aqara camera and an Aqara Mini Switch!
Less expensive than any of the unreliable, slow Homekit doorbells on the market…and more automation options using an Aqara setup.
Guessing it’s only a matter of time before Aqara releases a doorbell, but the aforementioned has been 💯 reliable.

I was pumped when I saw this new option. But after watching this review it looks like the video quality is horrible.

Yeah same here. The viewing angle of the Logitech is too narrow for my property and was looking forward this one. Hopefully they can fix it with a firmware update.

😢 sad! Yeah, the reviews don’t seem to be great, what a disappointment. Also, I wasn’t too aware of Wemo, but after looking into them, a lot of Reddit users seem to note they have a poor reputation for reliability.

Yeah. Our two main choices right now are one that can't handle being exposed to the sun, which is ridiculous, and one that gets horrible video. Looks like I'm still stuck with my Nest Hello and Starling hub.
