i have an older iPhone 3G that i am using as an iPod touch. it currently has iOS 4.something on it, and it runs pretty slow and laggy. which iOS will help with the speed, yet still be compatible with the app i have installed? also, where can i get it?

Try 4.2.1 as a clean install. That brings back the speed of 3.1.3 with the new features of iOS 4. But if you are one of the forum users who swear that 3.1.3 is the best iOS for the 3G you can always downgrade to that.
do two reboots (hold homebutton and sleep button until apple comes up) i heard this helps. This doesn't erase anything it simply reboots it. and do it twice.
I agree with those who say 3.1.3 is the best iOS for 3G.
I previously owned a 3G, then I bought iPhone 4, i literally was testing all the time all the iOS firmwares, and 3.1.3 turned out to be the most stable and still quick as before.

It does support most apps but its slow as hell.
But again its personal choice, to me its unberable.
Haha +1 , just like how my 3GS running on 5.0.1 is slow as ****. After opening 3 Apps, system bogs down.
I have a first gen Ipod touch on 3.1.3 and it is completely worthless for app support, only app that even works anymore is Pandora.

do you think Jailbreaking 3.1.3 added anything to the speed or it made no difference? (wife has a 3g and currently it's just running non Jb)
