Hows your bumpers holding up ?

Hi Guys,

I have a bumper on the way from e bay and was wondering this,

You that have had a bumper fitted for a while, are they marking up the antenna band in any way. I understand there are lots of different models to choose from so I'm just after a broad spectrum of advice.

Thank you in advance.

The iPhone 5 doesn't have an antenna band, but I get the idea. The answer, however, is that they are intended to protect the sides from those markings. When I had the Apple Bumper on my iPhone 4, I took a photo and dropped it from eye-height onto a concrete sidewalk. Without the bumper, the antenna band would have been heavily scratched out and probably the glass would've been broken. With the bumper, nothing happened at all, and that made my pretty confident in using one on my iPhone 5 as well.

Hope that helps.

The iPhone 5 most definitely does have an antenna band.

I use the one from Monoprice.

It fits well and is very thin. Lock button takes a little bit of pressure to push but other than that its great.

I really like the Monoprice bumper as well. Its cheap, well made, and fits perfectly.

And even better, it works with the OEM lightning to USB cable as well as the Apple lightning to 30 pin adapter cable (0.2m version).

If you dub the "antenna windows" as "antenna band", then sure. A real "antenna band" that runs around the phone is found only on the 4 and 4S...

If you mean the windows: It's glass, use Windex.
No, the external antennas as part of the aluminum band around the phone.

Also see the Apple engineering drawings where they don't want you shorting between the unibody and the upper and lower antenna.

Well, good to know. But that means OTOH that there's still the death grip, it just looks like this now (left hand):

There are two antenna far separated. Like with the iPhone 4S. Impractical to short them together.

Anyone have any additional info on this case?

It sounds like they're still working on the product, so the only people who know anything would probably be Bump themselves. They haven't even got their 4/4S one selling, although it does say October on their home page so that could be any day.

If you're more into slimmer bumpers, the i-BLASON bumper might fit your bill, plus it comes in black, white, green, pink, yellow and blue:

I got the all black I-blason off amazon. It's pretty thick, however the reviews hinted at this with the all black version, but I thought I'd take a chance. I guess the ones with the color band (like the green shown) are thinner that the ones with the black band... I have a spigen hybrid EX bumper for my iphone 4, I compared the thickness of the I-blason bumper and that, and they're almost the same thickness, which shouldn't be the case with the 5 being thinner.

On a side note, the I-blason can be rubbed off with some effort and a good eraser if you like the bumper but not the logo.

i like those kind Bumper cases

I have the Tech 21 impact band. Its a great bumper with an optional clear backplate, although it is a little thicker than others. You do sacrifice button tactility as feedback is slightly muted by the TPU material and buttons are harder to press. Its lined with D30, so if you're looking for drop protection this is the bumper to get. They do come in clear / smoke and other funky colours.

I got one off DX (deal extreme) for $2.80 free shipping. It took 3 weeks to get here but it looks like just all the others the ebay / monoprice ones everyone has.

It's cheap, works decently. Only complaint is the sleep/wake button on the case doesn't "stick up" very much and doesn't move very much. it just sits there. but it works at least.

Aluminum Bumper...

I had this one for a day, and this is the best feeling of bumper for me... but I took it off within a day... because it killed the reception, I have at&t 4G LTE in 99% of my area(work, home, train...), and it also killed the speed even I am on 4G LTE... I left a feedback on amazon.com about this item.

That's why you use polycarbonate bumpers. :)

Ive had many cases and this is by far my favorite. Its a knockoff from ebay but the quality is amazing compared to my buddies real one. Not sure how thats possible given the $15 price tag on ebay. Unfortunately it looks like the listing was taken down. If I see it again I will post it for you guys.

No signal issues either

Nice wallpaper!!

I just picked up the "Best Case" brand at Target, a white bumper that looks exactly like the Apple-made bumpers for the iP4/4S. So far, so good. I can tell by the "feel" of it that it's not an Apple-branded product, but it's way better than the all-white case made by Best Case. I took that one back, it stained way beyond normal & I just didn't like the "feel" of it.

Have also returned a Rocketfish ("clear") case and a Griffin Reveal case (BULKY!!!!), neither of them were long-term answers.

I have a black Monoprice bumper. It looked okay on my white iP5, but all the buttons were EXTREMELY hard to press to get them to activate with that bumper, and I had to X-Acto knife out the bottom cut-out for the Lightning cable as it wouldn't stay connected unless I did some surgery. It's a "backup" case right now, I don't like having to really press the buttons & with winter coming & gloves, not a good combination.

Left my iPad at home so no camera at work today. May snap a few pics of the Target "Best Case" white bumper tonight. I like it. It's a little pricey at $17.99 US, but I have a gift card I'm using so no big deal if I want to return it.

Hi BearsFan34 I was wondering if you could grab me one of these Target BestCase bumpers if I paid you? I live in the UK and their impossible to find online.
