I'm looking for best quality sound to sit either on a bookshelf or desk. Portability doesn't matter. $250 max.

    Thanks

Did you buy a sound dock in the end? If so which model did you go for?

I would recommend the JBL SoundStage

It's small, has great sound quality, and you can use it as a dock with your computer (although mine is in my bedroom).

The downside is the remote control that comes with it. Its tiny, dark, and a rectangle, so it's hard to see what you're pressing. All in all though, a good value for the money (@ $150)

I know it's out of your price range, but maybe you can find the extra funds :D

I have the BOSE soundock. It's the best set of speakers I've ever had for my iPods. It's portable (with included rechargeable battery) and ultra compact. The soundock produces fantastic sound, too.

    That's my recommendation!
