I've got a 3G I want to jb and unlock. Ive got a mbp and have never done it before. I'm waiting for the white iphone 4 and after I get it I figured I could get more $$ for my 3G if its jb and unlocked. Any tips?

Right now Redsn0w is best JB for 3G, followed by Ultrasn0w to unlock.
If you are waiting for your elusive white iPhone 4 to appear before selling the 3G, this might have changed by the time that occurs.

Do you have to restore you iPhone before jailbreaking? That way it saves a back up file on your computer?

No, but you should create a backup in the very unlikely event something goes wrong. Redsnow doesn't need a restore

I too have been thinking about jailbreaking my phone but am relatively unaware of what apps are out there for jailbroken phones.
