I think 14" would be pretty great.

I have a 13" MacBook and I'm constantly toggling toolbars on and off to make space in Xcode, it's just too clumsy, especially now with these storyboards, those are a real screen space hog. And if I had the rMBP 13" with scaled resolutions the text would be too small for me. I hated the 11" Air because of the small text, so I sold it and went back to the plastic MacBook.

I think the 15" is perfect for screen size but a little bit too big to travel with conveniently. The 14" HP I have from work is the perfect trade-off screen-size-wise. In every other way it's awful of course because it's a plasticky, big, heavy, slow P.O.S. :) (And they still make us use Windows XP )

But yeah I think it would work well for me, I'm seriously considering the 15" rMBP anyway but at the current price it's just a bit too expensive.

So it's a tough one but I think I'll settle for 14" even though Apple doesn't make one.

It's not just about the screen size, but also the overall size of the laptop.

I used to think 13" was the best size after owning both a 13" and 15" cMBP. Now that the 15" rMBP has smaller bezels and is thinner and lighter than even the 13" cMBP, I don't mind the larger diagonal size anymore.

Likewise, if the bezel size keeps getting smaller and laptops continue getting thinner and lighter, I might be interested in a 17" laptop in the future.

The old 17" cMBP was way too bulky for me to even consider buying though.

I use to say 13 inch, but after having had one for 3 years I can tell you that the level of productivityt is not the same.

RMBP15 fixes many of the problems I had. Which was weight and footprint. But the retina is so light and has such good battery, that.. you get the screen that allows more people to watch the details. you get so much out of those 2 inches. its crazy. size does matter.

Personal preference.

These types of threads are useless.
^ This. I don't even use just one size of laptop. It really depends on what I'm doing and other considerations.

Does it feel weird to bring a 15.4" laptop to coffee shop like starbucks? Most ppl I see always bring 13-inchers
No but I don't worry about what others think or fitting in with the crowd. And I don't go to Starbucks as there are much better choices out there. YMMV as you seem to be fixated on such things. Do whatever works for you.

I voted 14".

I've never used one but my logic was:

13" offers the full sized keyboard with good key spacing. Portability is top notch, but screen real estate is lacking.

15" fixes the real estate problem for me but the chassis just feels so much larger cuz of those extra 2".

I figure a compromise would be a good settlement between the two biggest issues. Also, if you take the average of the votes then I that'd be the best way to get a real answer to your question of which size is "best." Looks like the average so far would put it in the 14" range somewhere.
