Best Mac Software

I'm completely new to Mac, and I'm just wondering what are some of the best pieces of software for the Mac, and the must-haves?

I'm sorry to close your thread but this gets asked so often, and it's such a broad question, that we've had to introduce a sticky to keep track of all the Best Software threads which is signposted at the top of this forum.

Probably best to do some reading first, make a list of your needs i.e what do you want to do with your Mac, and then create another thread at some point with more specific questions.
