After lots of research, I stumbled across this piece of equipment...the Schosche Magic Mount Pro Charge.

https://www.scosche.com/mpq2v

It attaches to your car’s air vent. I really like that it has 2 areas of magnets so the charger should hold my iPhone 8 Plus very firmly I would imagine. Not to mention that it leaves the middle of the charger “magnet free” so the QI wireless charging of the iPhone will not be affected at all. Does anyone have this? What are your opinions about it? Thank you!

I have the MagicMount Pro and regular (1st gen) dash/window mounts. It is Ok. The magnets are not very strong, if you place the metal plates behind a case. Also, the lower magnet under the “Scosche” is very weak; noticeably weaker than the magnet under “Magic Mount”.

With my XS Max and Caudabe Sheath, with metal plates mounted on phone, under the case, the Scosche barely holds the phone in a vertical position. The placement has to be exact.

I have relegated the 1st Gen (not Pro) to my nightstand and charge my X with it.

I also have this mounted in my truck. Same concept but horizontal.

Charging works well. Wouldn’t call it fast, but will charge fully with Google Maps running and screen on.

Anything specific you would like to know?

Thanks for the info...that looks like a nice wireless charger for the car, but I want something that can mount to where my phone is eye level. Maybe the Magic Mount’s magnets got stronger overtime with the generations? What gen is it at now?

The Pro is the latest generation. I have both the 1st Gen and the newest Gen, which is the Pro (silver trim). The 1st only had one magnet at the bottom and it did not work well with vibration and bumps. The dash Pro that i have mounted now works fine for my X, but is iffy for the XS Max. Scosche now has two models on their site; one is all black and one is silver (Pro). Not sure what the difference between the two are, but their Pro models, in general, are supposed to have stronger magnets.

Do you plan to mount the Magic Plates on the outside of your case or inside? And which phone are you using?

I would use the Speck Persidio Mount case (with 2 built in magnets) with my 8 Plus.

Not familiar with that case, but you should be fine. I have found it best to slide the phone down the Scosche Mount, from top to bottom while feeling for positive engagement with the magnets, as opposed to just placing the phone straight onto the mount. If that makes sense.

Yes it does, thank you. It’s really that hard to find the magnets to make the connection haha? I wonder if having the magnetic case I was talking about would make it easier...

I have the latest gen of the Magic Mount Pro (dash suction cup mount) and XS Max.

I have a black Apple Leather case, but have to install the metal plates on the outside for it to attach securely. Given that it works well and hold the phone securely.

Also the newer version uses a separate 12v (cig) to USB charger, so you can swap that out for a different outlet if you like, whereas the older version had a hard wired cig lighter plug.
