I am on the fence about buying a laptop. There isn't much of a price difference between the two of them. I don't do anything professional, and the only ports I use are the USB port and the headphone port. I mostly just use the internet, iTunes Music, Email, and photo editing within the photos app. This will be the only computer that I have and it will be one that I keep for 1-2 years. I also want it to be portable since I travel at least once a month on a train or a plane.

My choices are:

1.3/8/512GB MacBook Space Gray $1749
2.9/8/512GB 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro $1799

Thoughts?

if you don't carry it around. then MBP by a mile

if you are like me (only use it on my lap or take it on the go almost daily), then MBr

so outdated now :(

Ok, you don't get the 'retina' screen but apart from that?
See speedtests below, the i7 Air sits right in the middle between the Pro and the 12" retina.
But it is much cheaper, has better battery life and plenty of useful ports. And it is hardly any thicker than the new Macbook that has been developed with so much effort....
