best method for unlocking and jailbreaking 3.1.2?

Recently I got an iphone (first gen aka 2g) and i was planning on jailbreaking and unlocking to use on t-mobile but luckily it was already unlocked. now i want to update the os to 3.1.2 and after looking through some tutorials i am not exactly sure what i should. So what is the best method for keeping my iphone unlocked and jailbreaking it when updating to 3.1.2? also id like to note i use both osx and windows xp. and my iphone current os is 2.2.1

I would download and use pwnage tool. That will unlock/jailbreak the phone at the same time. Or you can update to 3.1.2 in iTunes, and use blackra1n and it will jailbreak the phone, and then you just need to download bootneuter from cydia and it will unlock the phone.
